Art (and anyone else who's interested)--just send me a pm with your name, address, e-mail address, and phone number, and I'll add you to the list. When it get's back to New York, I'll ask all the current participants and people on the waiting list to reconfirm and make sure all the addresses are up to date, and then I think we'll be ready to split into two portfolios.

David,
Am I on ANY list? I thought I was going to be sent the first portfolio but it's been so long ago I don't know if I'll ever see it.

Bruce--you're still at the top of the waiting list. It just hasn't made its way around since we all met in my apartment. A couple of snags happened along the way. This is why I'd like everyone to reconfirm for round 3, so we don't have it going missing for three months in various spots en route.

Also if we split into two or three groups, maybe we can get the number of participants in each portfolio down to 15 or so, so that it doesn't take so long to make the journey. There is something kind of neat and ritualistic about having it come around once a year, but it might be a little more lively if we could trim it down to six months. On the other hand, the f32.net Travelling Exhibition is smaller, but it still seems to take quite a while to make the rounds for some reason--maybe more border crossings.

once a year is fine with my wallet!

I'm thinking we ought to do something to try to spread the mailing costs around. The first two rounds the plan was just to let people volunteer to take the international shipments, but this isn't really an option for people like Ole, Jorge, Nige, and others who are always getting stuck with the big shipping fees. If anyone has any thoughts or ideas on how to manage some sort of shipping fund, I'd be interested in hearing them.

I suppose one way would be to open up a PayPal account for people to contribute to the portfolio, say for international shipping expenses and the cost of the second, and maybe third portfolio cases, and these funds could be be transferred to individuals to defray some of the high shipping fees. PayPal fees of course would cut into the fund, but compared to other options for transferring funds over the net, it seems widely available and convenient, and anyone who doesn't want to deal with PayPal could just send a check or whatever they prefer.

I have no problem with contributing. I think I got off the cheapest of all, since I could just drop off the portfolio live to the next person. I think it is more than time for me to pay for an overseas leg or contribute to a fund. I just don't want to miss pictures of the people I have seen so far. To bad the portfolio case is not big enough to expand to allow the waiting list in too. That would just take a lot longer for it to make the rounds. Oh well

Once this round is done (soon I hope, if there are no more holdups!), I hope we can buy enough portfolios to accommodate everyone who is interested.

I have no problems with paying international postage - if I did, I would simply not have joined. I consider it a bargain anyway - I get to see all these great prints, for the price of shipping it on!

For those who are worried, jdef has it and is just out of town and says he'll be sending it along as soon as he gets back.

Thanks, Jay. Regarding "openings" and such. The current plan is to add another portfolio for the next round and we'll reconfirm if that might help avoid future hangups.

I received the portfolio today. I will take a few days to savor the contents and will have a little showing at my home for some friends. So it will be on its way end of next week.

Joe Lipka is next in line. If anything has changed with regards to your address Joe let me know. I will post when it ships.

The APUG Travelling Portfolio is in North Carolina!

Yup, it arrived on Friday. ( I was in Roundup, Montana.) So, I have it here in Cary. I will add my new print and ship it off by the end of the week.

I was thinking of having some photo friends to come over and see what's in the portfolio. If there are any APUG type folks here in the Triangle, send me a PM and I will arrange a date.

David Goldfarb did the same thing when it was with him and I had the pleasure of seeing some of the fantastic prints (along with eating some great fruits and cheese!) This is a great idea and another example of the real community value of this site.

Maybe the portfolio can arrive in Toronto for the APUG Conference?

Art.

That's a possibility. We could arrange for a detour to Toronto.

Actually, Art, you didn't see the APUG Traveling Portfolio, but the F32.net Travelling Exhibition (which has 2 l's, because it's a more UK oriented site). When The Traveling Portfolio makes it back to New York, I'll have another get together.

I had some friends over to look at the prints while I had it. They really enjoyed the variety of work. Got a lot of comments from friends who use point and shoot digital about the tactile quality of the work.

I took my name off the list as I got to see it mostly full a couple of times. I decided others should have the chance to have some great prints in hand and contribute their work.

Thanks for the opportunity and sharing.

Thanks, Jim, but we'll be expanding to two portfolios for the next round, so everyone on the waiting list will be accommodated. If you would like to stay on, you won't be taking someone else's opportunity.

I received the portfolio from Joe yesterday. I'll plan on shipping it off to John by early Oct at the latest. Someplace along the way the lock was lost. Joe used a cable tie and I'll just do the same. Looking forward to seeing the prints.

Thanks for checking in, Chuck.

The lock/cable tie isn't really for security purposes, but to satisfy postal regulations, so whatever they accept is fine with me.

I was reading to see if others can join or not. Got to page 15 and gave up. Is there still room?

Yes. If anyone is interested, please send me a PM with your name, postal address, e-mail address, and telephone number. When the portfolio makes it back to New York (it's almost there--a couple of months I hope!), I'll go through the current list and my list of everyone else who has asked to join since the last cycle, reconfirm participation to reduce the chances of the portfolio disappearing for months at a time as it has a couple of times this cycle, and I'll reorganize the group into two portfolios to accommodate all the new participants.

I think we should also set up a fund (like a separate PayPal account) to cover the costs of the second portfolio and to help offset shipping costs for those participants who always get stuck with an international shipment.

I shipped the portfolio to mrcallow yesterday. Wanted to say that I enjoyed seeing everyone's prints. Hard to pick a favorite but I really liked Clay's Hands, Michael's Foggy Grain Elevator, Jorge's Print II and Joe's Checkout Counter.

Looking forward to the next round.

I have the portfolio and will be hanging on to it for a day or two more. I'm meeting up with another apugger tomorrow and after that I'll send it along.
