Traveling negative anyone?

I think I did not. Not sure, it is one landscape picture with one bridge in Paris, I have 2-3 similar negatives ... I will know when I see first print .

This just sounds like an appropriate celebration of photography. Since an old Kaiser enlarger came across my way, and my bathroom will be my place to be in the near future:
I would love to give that neg a print, too! One of my first prints actually....

I've got the negative here in California! I'll print over the next week or two then off it will go to antmar in Greece.
By my calculation the negative has now traveled 8836 Km or 5491 miles

Don't worry, I haven't forgotten! I'll probably print this weekend. I need to put the 50mm lens on my enlarger and make sure it's all set for 35mm film. If not this weekend then the next at the latest. Then the negative flies again to Greece!

I made a print on Saturday, and a couple inter-positives that I might use to make alt-process prints later. After looking at the dried inter-positives today, I'm not completely happy with one of them, so I'll keep the negative a few more days to make another. I'll scan and share the print here in this thread soon.

I have antmar's address. 480Sparky should PM his address to antmar!

I'm tempted to write some things about printing the negative, it was a good choice for this, with different things to discover or decide about when printing. But part of the fun is discovering and deciding those things, so maybe we should wait until there are a number of prints before that.

I think I know what time of day and what season of the year the photo was made, but I'm not telling what I think yet

I really enjoyed printing a negative without any idea what would be on it; it printed perfectly in my enlarger at the optimal aperture, 2 clicks from wide-open.

In hand, the print has a more delicate looking silvery sky and the base of the bridge is not such a harsh black.

Great Ned - thanks for the first print! I have chosen this negative (between other things) also because it has big portion of sky, shadows - it can be printed in many different ways.

The negative can be printed in many ways, and there are many aspects of the photograph for the printer to decide. It was a great choice for a traveling negative. I will make some notes about what I did in case we want to compare someday.

I made a couple more ( right side up ) inter-positives last night, so maybe I will contribute another print later.

The negative is now in the mail on the way to antmar in Athens!

P.S. If you are an APUG subscriber, there is an gallery called "Let's all print one negative" that has not been used for a long time. I put mine in that gallery. If we all use that gallery, it will keep the gallery prints in one place. Of course non-subscribers can post in this thread.
