How about "My favorite ornament" ?

Anyone who takes that theme and posts a picture of their significant other gets banned from the forum for more reasons than I have time to post! Sean, please support me on this one!

Okay, Claire's proposal was "My Favourite Ornament". I suggest we broaden it slightly to "Yuletide Felicitations!" and run with it.

Alternative suggestions, post quickly please. Time's winged chariot, etc., etc.

Seconded ... although as I haven't even purchased my first Chrismas / Yule card yet this year I'm going to have to use my brain for this one :D

Go into Galleries and Upload Picture, change the Choose a Category to APUG Galleries-> The APUG Challenge and continue as posting as to any other category. It's not a contest, just a fun challenge to see what ideas we can come up with

Is it time to think up a new challenge??? Anyone??

I want to see self protraits. Not just little digi avatars, but a real photograph. Something I've been meaning to tackle for awhile, anyone else game? Or I'll entertain other ideas, if we are all too self conscious!

How about a self portrait that says something about where you live? That could mean your house, your street, your city, whatever. What do you think?

That adds an additional element. We already know what a good-looking bunch of folks APUGers are .
It would be interesting both to see the different places around the world where we are living and perhaps even more so, how each of us would choose to visually incorporate ourselves into our environments. By Home and hearth? On the main street of your town or city? At your favorite local photo location? Sounds like real challenge.

Cone shaped drinking cups?

One that has worked for some goups I have talked to is this: a photo of a conical 'dixie cup'.
You can photograph anything you want, but it has to have a 'dixie cup' as part of or in the photograph as a recognizable object.
These are the generic, white cone shaped paper water cups you find in water dispensing machines. One to a million, but it has to be recognizable in the final image.

Unfortunately, not on this side of the pond you don't: never seen such a creature outside of a Hollywood movie... Clever idea though - would certainly get people thinking! Had no idea they were called "Dixie Cups" either: so, that's January's quota for learning something new completed  ...

Cheers, Bob.

Just to take your quota over the edge, "Dixie" is the company that makes paper products, most notabley cups. A "Dixie cup" is like "Band Aid" is to bandage or a "Q-tip" to a cotton swab.
I actually had a friend who thought a bandage was differnt from a Band Aid.

At least your friend didn't think Band Aid was a charity gig :D

There again a bandage is a long fabric dressing for wounds and fractures and a band aid is a sticky plaster for cuts and scratches around here.

Does anyone have a Kleenex? I'd like to make a Xerox of it.

So does anyone have any other ideas for the next submission? I've been having fun with my camera and tripod in the crowded market near me. Shall we go for a self portrait or what?

Self-portraits are even worse for me than still lifes... However, the whole point of the challenge is to do something that you ordinarily wouldn't (and, believe me, pointing a camera at myself definitely falls into that category!) so, let's do it!

Anyone second the motion?

What was that saying about "two countries divided by a common language"....

Like so many others here, the idea of pointing a camera in my own direction is not something I would normally entertain so it will require some thought as to how to approach it. A worthy challenge!
