The affordable Leica is never going to happen..

what redesigned electronics? same as MP

Functionally the same but likely not physically the same components. The MP is going on 20 years old. It is quite likely that at least some of the electronic components are obsolete and no longer available. It is standard practice in consumer electronics...although most consumer items get refreshed or completely phased out much more frequently than 20 years.

Whither the MP? Why an M6 instead of an MP? Is it because of the rewind crank? The red dot that says Leitz instead of Leica?

See the "New Coke" analogy above.

hint, "head fake"....create a distraction...then later after the buzz dies down, quietly update the MP electronics too and raise the price a bit.

I don't understand the need for a "head fake" to update the MP electronics in the MP and raise the price. They are pretty good at raising prices without a "head fake" or updating anything.

then you don't understand "Leica Men".

The Leica Aficionados never miss any opportunity to nit pick and bitch and complain and shit upon and point out even the most minuscule and meaningless differences between...eh, it has nothing to do with raising the price, it has everything to do with changing something...even when the change is, to normal folk, for the better. Change is anathema to the Leica Men.

It's just like the new coke thing...remember?

Not sure they would bother with a "new" label. Leica has a history of making improvements to existing models without making a big deal of it--maybe so buyers wouldn't be reluctant to buy a recently released model.

Still doesn't explain the need for a "head fake". It's really not that complicated. This is Leica we are talking about. Reissue a camera, people will buy it. Update the electronics and raise the price on a camera, people will buy it. Don't do either and raise the price, people will buy it. Introduce an ostrich skin strap, people will buy it. How many ostrich skin straps do you think Nikon could sell?

Then, maybe the special edition reissue of the early Leitz Wetlar M6 is exactly what it appears to be ?
Maybe, we could just take it at face value for what it is?
Accept that it's just Leica doing what Leica does?
(and be happy that, in 2022, there is still one company making new miniature format film cameras?)
Hmmm, contemplate this, I will.

Nikon could probably sell as many as Leica does. Maybe more.

ah...so you're saying that Leica thought the could make money selling a special edition reissue of the early Leitz Wetlar M6?
Simple as that...all about the last small format film camera company trying to make a buck. Interesting idea. You really think it could be as simple as that?

Leica is very leery of messing with the look and feel of the M cameras. In an interview, a spokesman said "we wouldn't want another M5." The M5 was actually one of the best cameras Leica produced, it just didn't fit the traditional Leica mold and sold so poorly it almost put Leica out of business. Well that and the enormous success of Nikon and Canon SLRs among professionals, especially photojournalists.

Yes, I guess that was the point I was trying to make above (in post #279).

and let’s not overlook the tremendous market buzz this stunt has created (and sustained for nearly two years).

It’s brilliant!

Well done Leica!

Where do I get one??? I have a neighbor who doesn't pick his apples off the trees. I have one every time I go for my walk. I could stand to lose a few pounds, food is overrated!

I want one. I wonder if they have figured out how to time out the meter, or if it still runs the battery flat??

Who cares? Matte black

The meter times out after maybe 10 secs on the MP. It didn't do that on the M6?
It’s always on with the M5 when you cock the shutter. to turn it off you must either take a shot or put a lens cap on.

I bought a M6ttl, NOS, 0.85 finder about 5 years ago, from a big dealer, might have been MAP Camera, Japan. The seller had something like 10 identical cameras, all new in box.
After a couple years, the meter would stay on if the camera is cocked. It shuts off after the shutter is released, and of course when off. I love the camera. I had another M6ttl, .72 finder for years, it never missed a beat.

I should have it looked at, but I am more afraid somehow it will be damaged. I had one camera repair place tell me that it needs "the programming reset" there is little gold terminals, I suppose that's possible to access the electronics???

I think it may be something in the shutter release sticking. ??

It's such a beauty.

I bet it just needs a simple cleaning in the shutter release area. Most prob there is a little dirt or oxidation that maintains contact therefore not timing out

How do you turn the meter back on so you can finish metering?

Sort of takes the fun out of it, but yes.

Leica's future is in virtual cameras. People need accessories in the metaverse, so virtual fashion is taking off. This is Leica's chance to lead the way!

With the M6?
Just touch the shutter release button and the meter comes on.
After 10~15 sec, the meter turns off automagically.
Need more time? touch the button. No biggie.

I'm sure the M7 and MP are the same.

If you want Coke made with cane sugar around here, you have to get Mexican Coke. So they made the switch to corn syrup and "New Coke" was just a diversion so no-one would pay much attention. I guess it worked.

It worked if you consider that in the end they lost business that they never recovered.

That and the other nearly 300 post show me that buying Hasselblad was and still is the way to go! Thanks for the pat on the back.
