Keep in mind that Dialogues of the Carmelites is French. That's always a wildcard.

I think I saw Girls of the Golden West at the Houston Grand Opera about 25 years ago, but I may just be remembering a nightmare that I did. I sailed through Billy Budd. Britten is not bad once you get your earplugs in. You need about 20db of attenuation. Of course, that varies depending on where you are sitting.

ah...I caught your edit after my initial reply.
I think you must have seen a different "Girls of the Golden West". The one I saw was commissioned by and premiered at The SF Opera (ca. 2017?). It was written by John Adams (not the former president), is sung in English and was absolutely horrible.
Billy Budd....I guess the story was ok. I might have been able to enjoy it if I did in fact have ear plugs.

Rusalka was at the SF Opera before the pandemic. It was fabulous....up there on my list with Tosca and Turandot.
The production in SF was very well done. I think it may have been all new.

H&G also played at SF Opera before the pandemic. I wasn't bad but not one I'd make an effort to see again.

I figured it out. Puccini did Girl of the Golden West (La fanciulla del West). Adams did Girls of the Golden West. Puccini good. Adams not so much.

Yes, one of the advantages of retirement is that you can drive down to the Leica Store and pay for parking, which likely costs more than the free roll of film, and then you can shoot it, and then drive down to the Leica Store to drop it off and pay for parking, which likely costs more than the free processing, and then drive down to the Leica Store and pay for parking and pick up your prints and discuss them with a "brand ambassador" which, if you read the job description, is a sales clerk. On the upside, you will get three opportunities to fondle an M11. I've been to a Leica Store on a number of occasions, and once I got to fondle an M10, and based on that experience, if some one gave me one, I would use it. I'll have an opportunity to fondle an M11 this coming January. Alas, the offer of free film and processing will be long over by then. Fortunately, I will be taking the bus, so I'll only be out a couple of dollars, and there are several photo galleries right around the corner from the Leica Store which I like to visit.

The Leica Store has its own free parking .

I think it was sitting because it was broken, and they knew about that.

IDK, I tried another brand of the 1/3 N battery, no joy. Duracell (Japan) Energizer (China) Energizer (Japan) all fresh, 2030 date codes, my friend who used to own University Camera here in Iowa City brought over his fancy MBT-1 tester every cell showed 100%. It's not the batteries. I suspect that the seller simply didn't check out the camera, the way KEH tests everything.

I have had great results, all in all, buying from Japan, just watch out for the Near Mint ++++ 😀

That’s what I am saying. They knew they were selling a broken camera. And it was so pretty because it was not used, because it was broken!

My batting avg from Japan is about .500. From the USA 1.0

Few years ago M3 was kind of affordable for me. Stupid me thinking the prices will go down further. :-(

Still dreaming a M2 coupled with a 28/35mm lens...

Rusalka is sung in Czech and Hansel and Gretel is sung in German. I have only heard them on recordings.
I wish you guys hadn't mentioned Russalka. I've had That Tune in my head all morning.

PS - Other, more mellow recordings are available. That was just the first in my search. There's even one where the singer is standing up to her tits in lake water.

The Leica Store has its own free parking .

Okay. Two members have confirmed there is free parking at the LA Leica Store, so I have loaded the car with provisions and emptied my bank account for gas, and am setting off on my 3000 mile quest for a free roll of film. My wife doesn't think I'll make it by tomorrow, but I am an optimist. And, since I will already be out there, I'll go ahead and pick up an M11.

With the current exchange rate, you will save thousands buying an M11 from the UK and getting it shipped.

See how I am helping you? First the free parking, and now this.

I'll bet Leica UK has adjusted prices to reflect the current exchange rate with the Euro, even if they have inventory purchased before the Pound plummeted.

No, because you can go onto any of the sellers’ websites and see for yourself.

Instant gratification. Priceless.
[/QUOTE]

A 2 week trip with your horse drawn wagon across country to gaze at an M11 is not what I’d call instant gratification.

Well, the cat's out of the bag.
Photos of the new Leica M6 have been leaked along with the price.
(spoiler alert, it's more expensive than either of the current Leica M film cameras).

I don't understand the rational for this but...maybe it's like when the coca-cola corporation renamed the world's favorite carbonated sugar water beverage, "classic Coke" and simultaneously released carbonated donkey piss and called it "New Coke".

Who knows about these things?

Coke wanted to change from cane sugar to corn syrup. That is all it was about.

I'll have you know it isn't a horse drawn wagon; it's a Citroën 2CV aka Deux Chevaux. So two horses, which will make the trip twice as fast. I was reading this book by Einstein and he said instant was relative anyway. And I am going for the free roll of film. Buying an M11 is going to be just a coincidence.

If you want Coke made with cane sugar around here, you have to get Mexican Coke. So they made the switch to corn syrup and "New Coke" was just a diversion so no-one would pay much attention. I guess it worked.

Adam Smith anticipated all of this with his digression on the corn trade.

Oh, I see what you're getting at here...

Leica needed to do a refresh of the Leica MP because some of the electronic components are obsolete and no longer available.
So...we get a "new" MP with redesigned electronics cleverly disguised as an early Wetzlar Leica M6.
Interesting.

Whither the MP? Why an M6 instead of an MP? Is it because of the rewind crank? The red dot that says Leitz instead of Leica?
