Nick; I like that homemade 8x10 tank!

4x5 TMY2 with Xtol 1:1 in Combiplan tank
4x5 Efke 50 with Xtol 1:1 or Caffenol-C in Combiplan tank
8x10 Fomapan 100 with Caffenol-C in 8x10 tray
8x10 Fomapan 100 with Xtol 1:2 in 8x10 tray

recent caffenol-c 4x5 test shot:

120 and 4x5 T-Max 100

Jobo

Split developed with Xtol 1:1 and D-76 1:1 (yes, BOTH developers on the same roll)

stop and fix normally

Selenium intensification for N+1
Techpan in C-41 for N+2

NO N minuses. Pre-flash film instead

And that's all there is to it.

Nick,

I'd be interested in hearing more details about your tank. Is that all metal? That looks pretty great.

Hi Sully75

I use Jobo 3010 Expert Drums and 4x5 BTZS tubes for 4x5 and Jobo 3005 Expert Drums for 8x10 film. The films I use are 100 T-Max, 400 T-Max, FP4+ and HP5+. All my processing is done at 75 degrees. The cold water in the summer in Arizona is 85 to 90 degrees. I have a chiller that goes into my Intellifaucet to get the correct temperature. My developer of choice is Ilford Ilfotec DDX diluted 1+9.

For B&W 4x5 generally a 4x5 sized deep tank and hangers. For everything larger trays.
For color 4x5, a Jobo sheet reel and tank on a Jobo CPE processor.

I do 5x7 in 8x10 trays for standard development. I di 5x7 in 5x7 trays for standing development.

With 4x5, I use 5x7 trays if I have just a sheet or two. (I use teeny little 4x5 trays for standing development.) When I have more than a sheet or two, or a few groups of a sheet or two that each have different developing instructions. I use those green strawberry basket with one side cut off so the film will lay flatly, and I develop in the same 8x10 and 11x14 trays I use for developing photo paper. I can pull out the baskets with the film to be pull processed before I pull out the rest of the film. I can pull out the baskets with the film to be processed normally at the normal time, and then pull out the film to be pushed after I pull the normally processed film.

If I have much more than a handful of sheets that all need to be processed the same way, I will borrow a 2 L tank and hangers.

Additionally, sometimes I will use my Jobo 3010 tank (on a manual roller base) for black and white high contrast results (usually with D-19 3:1), though I mostly use it for color. I find that I generally prefer the way black and white looks with intermittent agitation, but that the Jobo works great for color films.

Films I use are:

FP4
HP5
Tri-X 320
T-Max 400
Efke IR 820C (though shifting focus is something I can never quite seem to nail without the red dot on the focusing scale)
Rollei IR 400 (every now and then only, because it is pricey)
Neopan 100 Acros (mostly for night photography)
Efke PL 25
Efke PL 100
Ilford Ortho
Arista Ortho Litho (3.9x4.9 in. fits holders, not 4x5)

...and color:

Portra 400NC
Portra 160NC
Portra 160VC
Portra 100T (stockpiled)
EPN/EPP (stockpiled)
T64 (stockpiled)
Provia (not so much any more, but I used to use it a lot, and still have some)
Astia (every now and then)
Velvia 100F (usually pulled one or two stops for landscape use)

Film developers I use:

Ilfotec HC 1:63 and 1:31 (or HC-110 at the same dilutions)*
D-19 straight, 1:1, or 3:1
D-23 1:1, 3:1, 7:1 (recently started using this developer and I love it)
Rodinal (also recently started using it and love it, but usually use it for standing development)
David Soemarko's LC-1 (for developing litho film with continuous tone)
I just got PMK pyro for the first time, so I'll soon know if I like it.

*Used to use D-76 for everything, but HC replaced it.

the largest size colour neg and transparency film I'm comfortable with processing is 11x14" via dip and dunk. I am happy to process 8x10" black and white and scala up to 8x10" by dip and dunk also.

4x5 and 8x10 in jobo expert tanks. have a large expert drum I plan to do my 16x20 in. Ilford Fp4 in both sizes and Efke in 8x10 (100) this is processed in abc Pyro plus and fixed in TF3 fixer. I now wash in the drum 10 x 2 minute washes. Results are consistent and excellent. Have been so for the last 15 years. All temps at 75 degrees.

I process all my sheets film in Tray (5x7-8x10-8x20) pyro developer and inspection. I've never had a problem with tray, some developing problem happend when I used for a short period of time a cpp2+jobo drums,so I came back to tray.

For 4x5 I use a Yankee Agitank. D-76 stock or 1:1 depending on the film. Anything larger is tray processed.

5 x 4 in Patterson Orbital tank using PMK Pyro for 8 minutes @ 74° 200ml solution. 10 x 8 the same at present.

Soon to try a Jobo ATL1000 with above chemicals when I can get it sorted.

Film used at present is HP5+, Foma 100, have been given some Shanghai and Era in 5 x 4 to try.

I single process each negative in a tray, stand development, in HC110. 5x7 and 8x10. By not agitating, the developer is self regulating on highlights (it slows down as the part next to the area is used up) so there is a lot of leeway in the development times.

4x5, 5x7 and 8x10 sheet film in trays, 8 sheets of 4x5 at a time in an 8x10 tray or 4 sheets of 5x7 or 8x10 in an 8x10 tray. Developer is usually D-76 except for 8x10 Ilford FP4+ or Foma 100, in PMK pyro from Photogs Formulary one sheet at a time. Kodak indicator stop bath, Ilford fixer (both in trays) and washed in washers (up to 16 4x5 or 5x7 in a home-made vertical washer, or up to 8 8x10 in a Patterson film washer. Hang from plastic clothspins to dry after a final rinse in distilled water with Photoflo added.
