Thank you to everyone who contributed to this posting! I love every single image especially the lith prints! I’m going to be getting a few of the suggestions to try out and see which ones are my favorite! I also see that someone posted a buyers guide on the forum! I didn’t think that this post would get so many wonderful responses and that is why I love this site... So I thank you all and I will share some of the images that I create once I have used each format that I will be playing with! One last question is has anyone ever tried using these little folders for still life? It might be a possibility but it really depends on what lens your folder has! Well enjoy your summer and keep shooting these! I will post as soon as I can!

I forgot to ask if anyone knows which 6x6 folding camera has a 50mm lens??? I think 50mm is the max I would want to work with on that format? It’s just my personal preferences on a dedicated 6x6 format! Any help of course is greatly appreciated... and I hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

I'm not aware of any 6x6 folders with 50mm lens. I'm sure someone will jump in, if that's incorrect. Typically, you're looking at 35mm folders, like the Retina series and may others, for that focal length.

Yes I am looking into it but I only want a 120 film format only... I hope someone else can chime in and let me know either way... I have my Leica for 35mm shooting...

The Agfa Isolette has an 85mm lens, which is roughly 50mm equivalent in 35mm terms. Most folding cameras have lenses in this range, after converting to 135 format. On my 6x9 folders I have 105mm lenses which is also around 50mm in 135 format.

For the closest thing to a 50mm in 6x6 you may have to go with a Mamiya tlr and the available 55mm.

For a square format you can only have to much on your picture, never too little ... 80mm is just right for 6x6.

A 50mm lens on 6x6 is quite wide.
Are you specifically looking for a fixed wide angle lens?

I read it as that he wanted a 50mm focal length on a 6x6 folder; not a 50mm equivalent. Again, I'm not aware of any folder with a 50mm lens on it.

Well only he can clarify that, but 50mm on 6x6 folder is more like 28mm in 135 format so I very much doubt that's what he's looking for, and if he is, he's going to be out of luck.

Yes, I should clarify what I want it for! All of you are correct that I would love to have a dedicated 50mm lens on a 6x6 folder! I’m not looking for a equivalent! Yes, I have realized that it’s not going to be possible... I’m not going to be able to have a 6x6 folder dedicated with a 50mm! It looks like I’m going to have to get a Hasselblad with a 50mm lens and only use it for that and nothing else! Yes I know that it’s not a folder and now I’m off topic! I wish there was a way to make a folder with a dedicated 50mm lens but it wouldn’t be cost effective.... I have shot with a 50mm lens for most of my life on a 35mm and I have always liked the aspects of it... I do use multiple formats and cameras from 35mm Leica to 8x10!

My subjects that I had planned on using it for would of been beach scenes, sand dunes and the redwoods! So I can hike further than I would have been able to with a large format camera!

If there is a 6x6 folder that comes close to a 50mm, I’m guess that it would be the 75mm?

I’m still enjoying this post and the photographs that are posted and shared! So thanks for everyone’s feedback and advice!

Now get out there and take more pictures and please post them here! Here’s your homework for the summer! Photograph a still life with your folder! Let’s see what you can create with them???

I will post pictures of the cameras I end up getting as soon as I find one that I like.

Thank you for the clarification. OK, since your eye is trained for the view of a normal lens (50mm lens on 35mm), then any folder with a 75/80mm lens will give you approx the same view. It is slightly different because the film format is different, but I doubt if it would bother you. Therefore, your choices are wide open! Take a look at all the suggestions already made throughout this thread.

Good luck and have fun!

A couple from my Agfa Record II 6x9 folder, which I enjoy shooting for certain things.

Great results there Tony, love them both. There's a certain smoothness of tones that I find irresistible in MF film shots.

Out of interest, is this the Apotar lens? Incidentally, I've just gotten hold of a Record II myself yesterday, and I hope it will complement my Isolette I nicely.

Would you happen to know where to source a hood and case for these 6x9 folders?
