Welcome maxmars,

although your observation is interesting, generally speaking the final bath can be reused for many, many times, so that in fact one never ends it too early. I mean you can rinse 20 rolls in the same water without making a new bath. The important is that the film is well rinsed with water before putting it in the final rinse so that the latter doesn't become polluted with time.

Absolutely. But the part I found interesting is not that -- rather that there is a difference between the recommended concentration on the stab bottle of the 5L kit and what's on the PDF that everyone uses, and that in the 5L kit case, following the PDF leads to an abnormal quantity of stains on the film.

Well it did lead to problems in your case and maybe the PDF is wrong. However in a 42 page thread there have been a number of users, none of whom from my recollection reported this problem.

So before we conclude that your experience will be replicated in every case it would be interesting to hear if others had the problem you had at your concentration and then solved it by halving that concentration.

I have a digibase kit that I have yet to open. It is the midi kit so my interest is more than academic. I certainly don't want stains

Anyone else experience maxmars issue?

I'm not suggesting my experience will be replicated in every case. I'm pointing out that there's a discrepancy between two official sources and in my case on has worked, another has not.

However, I have seen people mention in this very thread they added photo-flo to avoid water marks (e.g. (there was a url link here which no longer exists)) and there have been other threads here on APUG where people complained about this kit stab (e.g. (there was a url link here which no longer exists)) so I thought adding my finding could help.

So, sky's not falling and not having anything else to contribute to this issue, I'll be back to lurking. Thank you for your attention and sorry if I sounded alarmed.

Did Freestyle discontinue these chemicals recently? I can't find them on their website. This would be bad. Does anyone know what's up?

According to Freestyle, Rollei is reformulating the kits and has not released the new versions yet.

The response I got sounds less promising:
"The product has been discontinued by the manufacturer and at this time is no longer available."

Wait and see, I guess.

I emailed them earlier this month, so maybe something changed since then. Not good.

It might be a result of Freestyle taking on Tetenal. Or maybe they were tired of the leaking bottles.

Sometimes shops say a product was "discontinued" but they mean that exact line. X-product is "discontinued" before launch of X-new-product. Sometimes they refer to a certain package only. E.g. 1-l kits are "discontinued" and 5-l kits are not.

I would not rely on the use of "discontinued" by sellers to infer anything about production.

Is there a address of the mfg., on the instructions? Perhaps there is a way of getting the info right from them.

It's gone, at least in the US.

It may have been Nirvana, but Nirvana has changed its address. Or maybe buy it from Europe with appropriate costs.

Move on.

Can't speak to the Phillipines or Iran, but if the US experience is indicative, look elsewhere for C-41 processing. Freestyle, here in the US, brought this product in with great user fanfare. Now, a few years later, they have dropped the line. Think Tetenal or Unicolor.

Thanks man.. What i knew about the tetenal kit is, it's ORMD as well. I need a colour kit to develop my own here in Iran the labs here are very terrible! they don't care about your negs/images! I saw how they handle my negs last time here that was very bad experience!

The reason why i ask the digibase is that i would get some stuff from maco so i could order it as well.

There are powder kits. (unicolor?) Should not have ORMD shipping problems. Plus they are lighter, so shipping cost should be less.

Magandang Hapon.

Peeps, it's GONE

At least in the US.

Freestyle was the only importer and Rollei/Digibase is no longer listed as available.

Prove me wrong, someone out there has it. Or, not. Try Tetenal liquid?

I might consider switching to the Kodak Flexicolor chemicals, but I have yet to find a single, comprehensive resource explaining what to buy and how to use it. Nothing but conflicting information...

Of course you won't. Each product line is designed for certain machines and operations. Sure, people get it to work.........sometimes. There was a partial conversation here recently wherein one Flexicolor user was not using developer starter. An analysis of the MSDS showed it to be quite important to the developer formula, at least for consistent results.

And, you have to buy a boatload of product just to get going.

I've had zero issue with Unicolor powder chemistry. Nineteen dollars, simple. The Arista liquid is Unicolor. Or, the Tetenal chemistry if you want to divide into smaller units.

Ah, you funny USAnians and your assuming you can always buy stuff in the same country. The rest of us pay as much in shipping as we do for the chemistry itself!

It's one of the reasons we live here.

As shipping regulations get tighter it gets harder, especially for the individual, to get chemicals into our country. (We have schools where peanuts, or peanut products are not allowed on campus, because someone might be allergic.)

If they can ban a Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich, photo chemicals do not stand a chance. :frown:
