Hoffy, I think there may still be a way for people to opt into a smaller group, so don't worry about rocking the boat (except now I'm probably rocking the boat by suggesting this anyway  ).

OK, I would probably prefer the 10 print original idea, but with a bulk order of paper on the way, am probably happy to go up to 20.

I have some reservations about printing 20 fibre prints... washing and toning gets a bit tedious doing that many!

I'll be doing fibre, I thinks, much nicer look & feel, deeper shadows, tones better. A bit harder to work with but fine if you have enough drying racks. As someone else mentioned, after doing 50 prints for the postcard exchange, 10 prints is a walk in the park!

Hey, funny that a few of us live in the same suburb! I'm happy to for people to drop prints around / leave in letterbox etc. and yes, people are welcome to bring their contributions along to MCC printmakers group.

I think, we should draw the line at 10-12 prints, and split into groups. That way, there isn't a limit on the number of people who sign up, we just have more groups.

Let s settle for : ELEVEN in a group ( Each member sends away TEN prints), and receive 10 prints in return :.

First ten parcels in are in Group 1 , next ten Group 2 , and so on,AND let Tim K. decide when to close-off the Exchange .
...................Cheers Barrie B . I will be dropping off my set at The MCC traditional Darkroom Printmakers Group meeting.

Won't have enough for that Barrie, it's looking like there will be 18 participants, so two groups of 9 seems likely, unless we get a late minute rush of sign-ups!

Oh, how I wish my darkroom was set up now. Instead, I'm preparing my house for sale  Maybe I could participate with lab prints. I still have a number of magnificent prints from others when I used to particpate in the global print exchanges a couple of years back - they were fabulous fun.

Count me in, although I'll be in Sydney for work for 2 weeks in late May then school holidays loom, but I should be OK to hit the deadlines I think.

I don't know about that! we already have 19 people and we still have 20 days for sign-ups.

Gee, all of the Aussie members are coming out of the woodwork. Great to see, I can't wait for printing time :D

I agree. I am very keen to see what people do and how they do it. I have to warn you all, I'm pretty new to the darkroom (well, apart from high school, over 20 years ago) and what I have learned is self taught. My prints may not be the same quality, but hey, you gotta give it a go!

don't be intimidated, most of us are far from professional. I've only been printing for about 3 years and also self taught. In my opinion one of cool things about exchanges is that you get to see other peoples prints and learn from them. Another reason why it's important to put the technical details of what you did!

I'll give it a bash, count me in.

I only do RC prints these days, saves bucket loads of water, not to mention the time factor.

For those who haven't done much printing, or don't think they have too much experience, don't worry.

I consider myself reasonably experienced and I can assure you I am an excellent printer, perfectly capable of producing a print of pure mediocrity, at the touch of the enlarger timer!

My little local colour lab still prints optically, so does another one only a couple of suburbs away. I believe that Steven Frizza runs an optical lab in Sydney. Optical printers are a dying breed, but there is the odd one here and there.

I've seen some of those prints and would be happy to reach those levels of mediocrity.

We were all new in the darkroom once Hoffy (me, 1979). Good to see you on here as well as AP. I *really* miss having my own home darkroon set up but I'm facing off against the retrenchment demon at the moment so have decided to sell house and move back to be near my family (long story). Once the move is done, I will have a dedicated darkroom set up where I can spend my time having endless amounts of pleasure making B&W handmade prints ... See, there is a silver lining to every storm cloud! :D

I checked last night and it's 3 yrs+ since I participated in the global print exchange. When you hold in your hands a magnificent print made by someone who is very talented in their craft, it's a humbling and uplifting experience at the same time.

I did fibre prints in my last print exchange and I thoroughly enjoyed the event but that exchange was of fully matted/mounted flat prints. I saw some cracking of my fibre prints when I handled them carelessly. Can your roll and tube-post fibre prints? I don't know the answer to that question.

Guidelines
1. Prints 8"x10" max
2. Traditional commercial prints OK. ie. Regardless of Lab process, print is on 'photographic' paper from a neg/pos.
3. Unmounted prints only (due to postage costs)
4. You tell us about making the print (this is also a learning tool) and if you desire. the image taking (locations don't need to be divulged). 'Proforma' will be available to make this easier

You will need to Send Prints by 16/6/2010 (to TimK in Melb, address to be supplied)

Sign Up by 16/5/2010 to be included.
