To All:
I finally had some time to get in the darkroom and print. I have tried to flatten the fiber base prints as well as I can so they can survive the postal system. The paper I used was "scrap" given to me by my "photographic coach", so the paper size and boarders are not uniform (as I would like). I hope you like the image I selected. My cards will be mailed tomorrow.
Below are my comments on the cards I have received do-date (in no particular order):
"Lakeshore" by Jim Christie is a lovely pinhole photograph that invokes a sense of serenity. Well done.
"Kings Canyon" from ChrisR is a nice color photograph from Australia, a place I would like to visit someday. This Kings Canyon is very different that the Kings Canyon in California, also very scenic.
"Leaves" by AnselMortensen reminds me of a photograph by the other Ansel that adorns the cover of The Print.
" An afternoon sail New Your Harbor" by jvo is magical and filled with mystery. I really like the "brown toning", it gives the print that old photo look.
"Tree Line" by mfohl is sharp and has good contrast for a Holga. It looks like these trees were planted as a wind break, property line marker, or both.
"Tree Shadow" by Ajven illustrates how shadows can be as interesting as the subject casting them. The corrugated wall adds interest to the shadow.
"Virginia Creeper" by Don_ih is dark and moody. The image draws the viewer into the low contrast center of the print. Well done.
"Galerie Ravenstein" by rduraoc is really cool. A dramatic change of perspective that caught me by surprise. The "photo marathon" in which you partcipated sounds like a cool activity. Thank you for a new perspective on the world.
"Pioneer Saloon" by Michael Howard is another nice color photo. This saloon seems th have a long and storied history. Is is still open?
"Gear and Chain" by Todd Barlow indeed has a lot for the viewer to examine, and many stories to tell. The C330 is a great camera, but a little big to use on the trail (even though I have been tempted to do so). Unfortunately the post office scuffed the print.
"Sunday Afternoon c 2005" by mshchem is a wonderful study in cats and humans. I really like how the cat is sharp, but the human is soft. One question, why did I receive two copies of this card, one postmarked 11 Jul 2025, and the other without any postmark?
Thank you for sharing you work.
Regards,
Darwin
