I received @Don_ih 's "Virginia Creeper" (and agree that leaves provide interesting textures in photography), as well as @Jim Christie 's somehow eerie "Lakeshore". Thank you both!

Received "Tree Shadow" from @Ajven - it made it all the way here without a single scratch, by the way. Amazing. I like the photo. I tried to take a similar one once and didn't really succeed. I like photos of steel siding and brick and anything with lots of lines in it. Thanks!

I've received a few cards this week:

Ajven's "Tree Shadow"
It arrived in very good condition.
A strong graphic image, I like the interplay of lines, especially how the vertical line matches the tree trunk!

Don_ih's "Virginia Creeper"
I admire your dedication for using an Elwood enlarger.
Leaves seem to be a 'thing' this round.
Nice image!

mfohl's "Tire and Shadow"
Another strong graphic image!
A study in shadow and texture.
I like how the tire shadow resembles a saw blade.

Michael Howard's "Watching Me Watching You"
A modern take on the classic "Roadside Attractions" genre... nice color!

absolom1951's "Apples"
A very nice b&w flower detail, carefully printed to keep highlight detail with a challenging lighting condition.
The retro backing is a nice addition, too!

Received a very colourful and vibrant Australian landscape from @ChrisR - the photo is amazingly clear. That looks like it would be a great place to wander and dehydrate and blow away in the wind. I'm amazed you found some trees!

I like that you have a stamp with Charles on it. I just yesterday saw Charles on a coin for the first time. It'll take a looooong time to knock QEII out of circulation (I notice she's on the other of your stamps.) I still find coins with George on them (very rarely)...

I got a "Storm Brewing" from @Michael Howard and interesting to see how the depth of the image is enhanced by the cloud-covered foreground and sunny background.

I also got "Gear and chain" from @Todd Barlow , a careful composition full of interesting textures.

Thank you both!

Received @jvo 's "An afternoon sail New York Harbor". a dreamy picture of the Statue of Liberty through fog and rain. So happy you finally got the print. I know the feeling! Thanks for the backstory too. A lot of us would dream of such a lunch break!

The two white-trunked trees are probably ghost gums; I would have said Eucalypts, you'll perhaps be familiar with those in general but likely not this particular one. However, it now seems to be Corymbia aparrerinja (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corymbia_aparrerinja), who knew. Endemic to Central Australia. The darker tree is likely a she-oak or casuarina. I would have called the spiky grass porcupine grass, it looks a bit like spinifex but is apparently one of the triodias. Nasty pointy leaves that can break off in your skin and give you infections! It is very surprising the range of plants that grow in that extremely arid region, though the mean rainfall there is apparently about 12" (even if only 30 days a year have rainfall over 1mm).

That photo was taken (on Kodachrome) in mid winter, I wouldn't want to be there in summer; you could dehydrate very quickly, though apparently you're also more likely to get a soaking!

I thought I'd received all 5 of my dues, but when I counted them this morning there were 6! Such a variety, too. Most darkroom-printed, as far as I could see. I really enjoy them, thank you all very much.

It's good to mention when you get a postcard from someone. People who send like to know the card made it.

As for getting more, a lot of people sign up saying they'll send to everyone, so those who send fewer cards may end up getting more than they expect.

Received "Pioneer Saloon" from Michael Howard. Photo took at Goodsprings Nevada. Like the color and the stool. Is that a bottle of brew resting on the stool?

Received "Tree Line" from mfohl @mark Fohl. As a fellow Central USA'er your photo captured the cold of one of our cold mornings. Thanks for including the vignette, it added to the photo.

I received two nice cards in the mail today.

Ajven's "Tree Shadow". A good catch and well rendered. Shadows are one of my main subjects, and this is a good one. The white lines of the building and the top and top center tell me that the exposure is correct. Good detail everywhere, even the soft shadows on the left side.

And also Todd Barlow's "Gear and Chain". Nice heavy low key image. Good exposure in the low light. And excellent shadow detail: the chain all the way from right to left, and the part just outside the gear. Very nicely printed.

Thanks Ivan, thanks Todd!

I know! You said it in the note you sent with the photo. You can probably guess I got it today. Nice print of a nice scene.

I also received a peculiar octopus from @Michael Howard -- from a town in California called Nipton, which (according to the Wall Street Journal) was recently bought by this guy:

1751921474537.png

who runs a company known for erotic acrobatic shows or something. He reminds me of Eggleston.... I got sidetracked from the octopus, which was somehow Fallout (the video game, I assume) related. Was the octopus fibreglass?

Two great cards! Thanks!

Ah yes, sorry. I have, in truly random order, as they sit on my desk:

- Virginia Creeper from Don Heisz, darkroom printed direct onto a postcard, really low key composition that really appeals

- Leaves by Ansel Mortensen (Doug), scanned and offset printed, lovely little square

- Tree Line by Mark Fohl, darkroom printed, deceptively simple Holga image, arrived in an envelope (I slit your letter when opening the envelope, but luckily was still able to read it)

- Foggy afternoon by the Statue of Liberty by jvo, a wonderfully evocative image

- Gear and chain by Todd Barlow, also darkroom printed, I really like these almost industrial archaeology images

- Watching Me Watching You by Michael Howard, looks like it would have been rather scary IRL, but looks almost benign in the image!

A few were slightly damaged in transit; it appears the postal system is prone to putting some sort of franking mark even on the image side! Didn't reduce my enjoyment of them at all. Thanks to all of you!

My postcards were dropped in the mail this morning. Most of them are going over the Atlantic, but I hope they all reach their destiny.

Another batch of postcards was delivered yesterday. I received:

"Tree Line" by @mfohl - very aesthetic line formed by trees - very nice shot
"Storm Brewing by @Michael Howard - impressive picture and it almost deserves to be made as puzzle
"Gear and Chain" by @Todd Barlow - This shot is right up my alley! I like this old metal scraps and the light is perfect.

Thanks to all of you!!

@pamphoto -- I received your photo today, as well. I'm surprised by how thin the paper is and it made it without being in an envelope. I like the photo - especially the very nasty-looking think on the left-hand side. Looks a bit like a giant pineapple top...

Ha ha, that must be the yucca plant. They were in bloom then. I think they are pretty.
As for the paper, I'm glad it made it! I had a few regular pictures sent to me inthe past that made it, so I was hopeful these would as well.

I just got back from being out of state and had "Gear and Chain" from Todd Barlow, an interesting piece with texture and age, inviting one to look closer.
I also had "Pioneer Saloon" from Michael Howard, a color piece with pastel tones and a bit of history.
