Many thoughts on the card received thus far. I’ll add notes to this thread later but wanted to quickly thank everyone for their participation. This was my first time doing anything like this, in fact I had no idea a thread even existed so I have missed anyone directing questions toward me. I must not read directions well because I included my real name and not photrio username!
It's my first time, too! Learning as I go.

I do not have a darkroom, so mine was printed with an electronic printer, unfortunately. The film was either Ultrafine Xtreme or HP5+.

I checked with George before signing up. Hopefully I didn't offend!

Ah, that explains why it felt so different  It doesn't offend me at all, just 100% great to have your photo!

This motivated me so much that I sent-out postcards to you, @gijsbert and also...

...@tezzasmall

I hope you all receive them soon and in good health.

Kind regards,

Bill
Hi Bill, I have just received your card, just a few days after you sending it.

The picture is of a very sombre looking entrance to a Concentration Camp in Germany. I've heard of people now going to these and the closest that I have come was at an exhibition about the Holocaust at the London Imperial War Museum, some many moons ago now. It was really harrowing and people remained silent going around it, with many, including myself, leaving with tears in their eyes.

Anyway, back to your well printed postcard Bill, for which I thank you. I note that you are still printing on Ilford's postcard paper. I have just finished my box, so I am currently experimenting with other papers, as the postcard paper is much more expensive than many others.

Also, to my eyes anyway, it looks like it has a warmish tone to it, which I didn't get with mine, which were developed in Ilford MG developer. So, what developer do you use?

Hello Terry @tezzasmall,

This is my first box of Ilford postcard paper. I bought it especially for this exchange and it is very nice. It is expensive rhough. I normally don't go for Ilford papers as I prefer Foma instead. And not only for the cost but also for the look. The developer used for my postcard is Fomatol LQN. I didn't notice that warm tone myself. Thanks for pointing it out.

Heh, I also have bought recently a box of Ilford portfolio stock for a first time, but before start printing with it I need to learn working with MG. Previous attempts didn't lead to success.

Does Foma make a postcard paper? Or do you just use 4x5 or 5x7?

Tnx,

You're welcome!

Finnish post office had a strike few weeks ago and mail is coming in as clumps. So because of this I received three cards at the same time, happy day!

Gijsbert's "Old tree" - Wait, is this a real picture or a photogram? Turns card around - old tree. What? Double awesome. And I cannot still understand what way the card should be :D 10/10,totally marvellous.

Howard's waterfalls - I love classics. 4x5 contact and the scene. Sometimes "ordinary" is just extraordinary and in this case it is.

Bedrof's Old house - the composition is so good that it gives me goosebumps. Suddenly out of words. And I really appreciate the hand written story behind (no puns!) behind the picture. Thank you Ilya!

Oh man, I'm in good company.

Sadly, Foma doesn't make a dedicated postcard paper, as far as I know.
If I were to make and send one on Foma paper I would put it in an envelope.

+1 on that; nice etching like quality as well. I've sent off all my cards now (I think!); thanks everyone for appreciating mine and for sending yours.

Jouni, I'm very happy you successfully deciphered my handwriting and moreover liked the card. Thanks!

In few previous rounds I occasionally sent cards on Fomabrom double-weight paper without an envelope. Paper gives me an impression of rather sturdy stuff. Hope it got to the recipients in decent shape.

This round I will be late with some cards. That task of spot-retouching is taking more time than I expected, though half of the cards are already on the go.

If you attach labels to the back of the cards, it makes them more robust.
I just use regular weight RC paper - Kodak (when I had the remainder of a 1000 sheet box of 4"x6"), Ilford, Oriental. It has all held up reasonably well. I was recently gifted a couple of boxes of Agfa - we shall see.

Fortezo was great because it was on a nice 300 gsm base-as Matt says, the labels help.

Received gijsbert's portrait of an ancient bristlecone pine. I like how you used the narrow depth-of-focus to direct the viewer to the tree, and minimized the background. You also handled the high contrast very well. I feels like I could touch the needles they are so sharp. I live in California and have seen these trees only once.

Regards,
Darwin

I too have received gijsbert's fine "Old tree in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest"
As anyone who has participated in the Postcard Exchange probably knows, I have a real soft spot for trees, and this card is an excellent tree card!
The tree itself (and the view of it) is interesting, but what I really appreciate is the print. It is almost "liquid" in its rendering of tones - an excellent use of the satin surface paper.

drpsilverFibonacci Cactus – Beautiful print. The beveled edges of the leaves look razor sharp. I like the framing/cropping as well. I never know how I should frame subjects like this.

vedostuuFicus – I love figs. You can only get dried ones where I live, though. The “reverse vignette” is a neat effect for this photo.

dodphotographyStreet Art, Le Marais, Paris, France – I find myself rotating this print. It works both as a horizontal or a vertical. I like how you chose to print it with detail in the paint, instead of just high contrast black.

mfohl - Extended Shadow – Nice composition. I wonder what sign used to be held in that frame.

MattKingUpwards – I love this, Matt. So much incredibly sharp detail. Majestic.

Thanks all! I really like them.

OK Mark, glad the card made it to you. I guess there are all kinds of antlers for cars, these are just two of them.
