Light isn't the only annoying leak to deal with...

Yeah. I found that out when caring for my parents in their last years.

My motto is: Cognizant, continent & ambulatory. When one of those starts to go somebody come over and shoot me.

You romantic. I dont mind olden day photos from different places, they just need to offer me something I can connect with. Love Lartique's pictures they are full of charector.

Especially if they have some relevance to the viewer. Personally I find HCB's pictures are from a place and time that has no relevance to me. I can appreciate the fine composition, but apart from that There is nothing of interest to me (except the boy caring the big bottle of wine, that is a classic). Prefer street type pictures that represent a place in time I can relate to, better still if I can feel some connection to the subjects.

Making a virtue out of, and taking pride in being a-historic or history-less, is one recent strains in our times that I particularly resent and that scares me.

Like people in general, history and its people is not something that should spoon-fed to a picky, blasé audience, that can pick and chose as they see fit.
It takes involvement and co-creation to understand and appreciate history and art.

If you don't have the time or temperament, fine. But don't be proud about it, or make it a universal.

You have google right in front of you. Do your own search for HCB.

Well, you can OUTSMART her: kill her by buying one.
 
Buy/build a Brancopan. Or get an RB67 with a 220 back and adapt it to use 35mm (90mm, 65mm, 50mm lenses) -- heavy, but not prone to no-warning, unrepairable electronics failures.

You can buy cheap point and shoot cameras that have a panorama mode, its just a half in camera crop, then you can practice and see whether your worthy of such an expense. NB is very good at what he does no matter what camera he uses. If you were at his expertise then it would be justified.
I personally not fond of any wider than 1x2 aspect ratio for hanging on the wall.

True, NB23 could probably turn out cracking shots with almost any camera you give him. I’m falling into the trap of thinking a new (to me) camera would do it. BTW, I did a slightly tighter than 16:9 crop on a 35mm and it pleases me. Not street, but I may post it if I find an appropriate ‘hanger‘ for it.

Yeah, I’ve read quite a bit about conversions. Couple of problems generally, weight and needing a changing bag to unload.
 
Thanks, but I can’t take all the praise. There is obsessive compulsive practice, sure, but the environment plays a big role. Nobody comes back from India with boring shots. Nor Cuba, Miami, Iceland... you probably don’t need a Xpan for local shooting but for exotic places it will be worth it.
Like me, for example, I absolutely never use my Xpans in my city (well, only 2 rolls in the past 12 years). But tell me Greece and it’s the first camera to go into the bag.

I can't do anything about the weight, but I think I have a solution for the unloading problem. Need to check my hardware to see if it's practical...

Walking around photographing some wonderful sunset light downtown, I came across this (I'm assuming) homeless person slowly struggling to drag his cart up a set of stairs. I offered to help him, before lifting my camera, but he said no thanks.
