Your darkroom skills look great, I’d love to see a ‘naked’ scan of the negs to see what you did.
I wouldn’t say great. “Basic but well practiced” would be my description of my darkroom work. Thanks!

Dont know why the first picture reminds me of Tarkovsky's "Ivan's Childhood" scene.

Beautiful shots once again.

ahhh Tarkovsky... thanks

This shot is definitely one of my most well composed. Nothing striking, nothing particularly interesting, but the negative is packed with information all over, lines, forms, directions, it’s all there.

IMO of course.

Cars? The greatest invention ever.
Yes, they are an eyesore just as modern people are eyesores (nike shoes, caps, sloppy looks)... but cars tend to age very well on photographs, even the ugliest ones. Compose well, make them fit in the image and the rest will come

How are masks going to age in photographs?

Yes, but I avoid having people in my landscapes because the clothes date the photograph.

"The presence of clothes/cars/hair... date a photograph"

Isn't that the purpose of a photograph - to freeze a moment in time. The image in the photograph stays the same while we age away from that moment. A picture of a rock will date more slowly but eventually the rock will crumble, though I fear the photo will have crumbled first.

I find photos that 'date' by showing the details of the past to be much more interesting than photos that are age invariant.

The inverse of the situation hasn't shown much promise https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Picture_of_Dorian_Gray

An image that was fairly problematic to print. All this batch from 2014 was annoying, probably because I strayed away from my usual HC-110.
Also, the lower 1/3 of the image shows a darker strip which is not due to heavy burning. That’s how the negative is, but I cannot explain why. Maybe under development caused by not enough developer?
Maybe! My developing tank is leaking so it might be possible that from inversion to inversion, I end up losing just enough developer by the end of development to not fully submerge the reel. This represents about 75ml and a 1-2 minutes underdevelopment.

well, what do you know, it seems that I have uncovered the secret by posting this...

Especially if they have some relevance to the viewer. Personally I find HCB's pictures are from a place and time that has no relevance to me. I can appreciate the fine composition, but apart from that There is nothing of interest to me (except the boy caring the big bottle of wine, that is a classic). Prefer street type pictures that represent a place in time I can relate to, better still if I can feel some connection to the subjects.

But what about his photo of the man stepping off the ladder and into a puddle? https://iconicphotos.wordpress.com/2009/07/26/derriere-la-gare-saint-lazare/ I don't find any of HCB's work to be dated.

Heck, I don't find Lartigue dated. https://www.theguardian.com/artandd...e-portrait-of-the-photographer-as-a-young-man

Maybe all that says something about my own sell-by date.
