Just spent a couple nights backpacking on Redwood Creek with some friends and new friends. In their late 60s and 70s. Eco-warriors, every one. Most fought to expand Redwood Park almost 50 years ago as members of the Emerald Creek Committee and beyond. Stories around the fire of battles won and lost, heartbreak and victories, opponents with good or with bad hearts, sitting out storms under the redwoods and in the offices and chambers of Sacramento and Washington. I felt humbled.
I have a few latent images sitting in a couple rolls of 120 FP4+ (Rolleicord) from the trip. I had a third roll (the first of the trip), but I dropped it and it unrolled in the water and mud...those images I will have with me forever. Close ups of redwood trunks...the bases of redwoods in the top 10 in the list of the tallest in the world...and I did not know which one was which, not that it mattered to the experience of being there.
