Here is another Makiflex lens I just completed. After many, many hours of metal cutting, and hand filing, here is my 240mm F4.5 Schneider Xenar, in barrel mount. Had to cut and file a very heavy brass flange, essentially turning it into a retaining ring. This -just- fit into a (completely cut-out) circular flat plate from China. Combining three of the 30mm results in infinity focus, to extreme close-up, on the Makiflexes. Really alot of work, but worth it, in my opinion. The 240mm Xenar is a rather big, heavy lens, but works well on the Makiflex, and the groundglass image looks great, even wide-open. Looking forward to shooting with this setup. Also shown in the photo is a short Cable Release, which screws into my Makiflexes. This also came from China. It also fits my Sinar Norma Mechanical Shutters. How many brand new items can you buy for these really old things? Next project will be a 300mm Rodenstock Imagon in barrel. Takes the same flange as the 240mm Xenar, so it will just fit inside the tube system

Here is my Makiflex Standard, with 30mm Tube, and Flat Plate with #2 sized hole. This is perfect for my 240mm Schneider Tele Arton, which has a large rear cell, which protrudes into the Makiflex body. This is about as good a setup as I can get with this lens. I tend to use it for closer-up shooting due to lack of infinity focus on the Makiflex.

Pecoflex Adapter Auto Maki 270 Tele Xenar Maki Cable Release by Nokton48, on Flickr

Pecoflex Adapter on Maikiflex Automatic Body, Makiflex Cable Release restored and now functional, a smooth releasing cable mechanism. Shown with 270mm Schneider Tele-Xenar, a short telephoto design perfect for 6.5x9cm with small movements. This was not an expensive lens and I am looking forward to using it more on the Plaubels.

6x9cm Linhof Rollex 120 Wind Knob Backs CLAed by Nokton48, on Flickr

Camtronics just finished overhauling these two matching 6x9cm Linhof Rollex 120 Film Backs. They go onto Graphic Cameras, so the Makiflex Graphic Adapter goes onto my Makiflexes. What I like about these backs, is that the mechanisms are a pretty good match in function and feel, to the controls on the Makiflexes. So they are a great choice for these, one now loaded with Eastman 5222 Motion Picture Film, and the other with some Maco UP100. Ran multiple dummy rolls through these yesterday, both are super smooth and ready to go. And I dropped off two more matching units to them yesterday  BTW I recovered these backs with rubber sheeting, intended for the Rollei SL66 Anniversary model, a friend picked it up from the Rollei Factory in Germany.

Notice also how I redid the light trapping on the Makiflex Adapter, it was rotten. Recovered with the right thickness of adhesive sheet foam. So now lightproof, no leaks.

Homemade Makiflex Tapped Bolt Cut Down Prontor Fires it by Nokton48, on Flickr

Homemade Makiflex Tapped Bolt Cut Down Prontor Fires it by Nokton48, on Flickr

The Metric Bolt (tapped out completely through by a Machinist), then screwed PRONTOR Cable Release. It fires in all my Makiflexes NO PROBLEM! with the Prontor. This is a big deal, as the SINAR is expensive, and the Prontor, is not. On a couple of my Makiflexes I have secured the homemade Bolt/Adapter semi - permanently, with RED LOCTITE.

BOTH WORK OK!!

SONY DSC by Nokton48, on Flickr

Camtronics has finished CLA's on all of these, they are loaded, tested by me, dummy rolls look good film spacing. All four loaded the 6x9 backs are Eastman 5222 XX, Maco UP100, and Ilford FP4. The 6x6 back is loaded with Ilford Delta 100. I like all of these films, sometimes I will "bracket" by shooting two or three types of film, to give myself a choice (if I really like the scene). The Prontor Cable Releases have the large black grip, which I like when looking through the cameras. They fire all the Makiflexes (all of them) without issues. So all you need is the Adapter machined from a metric bolt, then cut down with a hacksaw to fit Makis. Then you willl have fairly original setup as I've seen in a lot of Maki bundles. There are other Prontor Cables, but these are the ones you want. The SINAR cables will work but they are expensive, while these Prontors are not at all expensive in local shops. They seem to be in short and long versions, and with and without cable lock. I prefer the cable lock but I'll take what I can find around here on the cheap. With the Graphic Maki Adapter Back I'm in business in style and Linhof Backs are the best made in IMO. The Wind Knob ones seem to be a match to the "feel" of shooting and winding on with the cameras.

I delivered my Makiflex + adapter to SK Grimes today. We should know sometime in July what pricing and timing would be for a run of new production 4x5 adapters.

@lensretro @Nokton48 The new production adapters should be ready in a few days. Please contact me for details. If anyone else wants one we have a couple that are currently unspoken for.

I picked up the Makiflex 4x5 adapters yesterday. Attached are photos front and back. It mounts nicely to the Makiflex. I shot a sheet of Polaroid this morning and was quite happy with the results!

I have sent messages to everyone signed up for one with payment and shipping details. We have one back still unspoken for. If interested please send me a message.

Gosh Those are Lovely! Can't wait to get mine. Folks the originals of these come by every blue moon or so, in my experience. Graflock opens a lot of doors to Makis. This is cool.

Arca Swiss Stovepipe 4x5 A S 9x12cm Film Holder SK Grimes 1 by Nokton48, on Flickr

S K Grimes manufactured this 4x5 Graphic Film Holder, it's a new and different design, for Plaubel Makiflexes. Here is Makiflex Auto #3 with the Schneider barrel 270mm Tele-Xenar. The Film holder is Arca Swiss 9x12cm Film Holder, you cannot remove the darkslide until it is on the camera. The S K Grimes Adapter is solid and virtually light leak proof. The Stovepipe is also 4x5 Arca Swiss, the Monocular Eyepiece swivels up or back. Very High Eyepoint view with a nice black border. So for 9x9cm images on 9x12cm sheet film, this will be one of my main go-to setups.

Patio Blinds Pecoflex Swing Movement Test by Nokton48, on Flickr

Plaubel Makiflex with Pecoflex Adapter 240mm f4.5 chrome barrel Xenar Ilford 9x12cm Ortho+ Legacy Mic-X replenished 18 min tray 8x10 Arista #2 Multigrade dev. 30 degree camera front swing to the right, the refocus as needed aligned the film to the patio blinds, which I thought were in interesting light. 2 1/2 minute exposure at f22. Learning to use the highly adjustable Pecoflex Attachment with homemade bag bellows. It is fun to figure out how all this old stuff really works on the job. Taken while I was feeling very incarcerated during the covid lockdown
