Makiflex to Peco Profia Adapter 1 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Makiflex to Peco Profia Adapter 2 by Nokton48, on Flickr

This morning I made this Makiflex to Peco Profia Lensboard Adapter. The adapter in my Plaubel junk box fit the earlier Profias (flat board dosen't fit Peco Profia) so I carefully trimmed off the board edges with my Mini Band Saw, and filed the edges smooth. I then carefully lined up the two boards, and drilled four holes with my Mini Drill Press. I used hobby modeling screws to hold it all together, and redid the light trapping with new foam, on my new board. I'm glad I didn't throw these pieces away! The black Peco Profia board had part of a Graflock Back attached, which I cleanly removed.

Blad Ringlight Makiflex Norman 200b by Nokton48, on Flickr

Back in the eighties ringlight was HOT HOT HOT. Every fashion photographer was doing it. This is my brand new rig; a Hasselblad Ringlight, converted to power from a 200WS Norman 200b power packs.

New York City Flash Clinic put this together for me (prolly one of hundreds). Sadly they are history. They also adjusted the flashtube circuit, so that the flash would not "sparkle with light" after firing. Was worth every penny spent at the time.

I just got three new sets of brand new lead acid batteries batteries, and replaced my twenty year old (dead) ones which I also bought new. I'm going to use this for Makiflex fashion 9x9cm photography. This camera syncs at 1/15 focal plane, but you could also use it with a Norma. Also all this stuff works with my Norman 200b portable systems.

EDIT: I also bought a complete set of step-down rings, so I can use the ring light with all of my myriad of lenses

Yes it does! Much more fun to shoot 9x9's. Geoff Berliner thought I was nuts to shoot 6x9's. Now that I have been using the full gate, I realize how unique a format this is!

Geoff knows cameras, he told me that one of the only 9x9cm reflex was a Giant Rolleiflex 9x9 on display at the Rollei Museum. Makiflex prolly lighter.

Makiflex Std 159mm F2 Super Cinephor Ilford Ortho fresh by Nokton48, on Flickr

Wanting a better result I reshot this focus test. This time I used fresh Ilford Ortho + film, focused super carefully, and used a RADA 9x12cm plate holder (a true antique) with a Kodak 9x12 cm film insert. Not sure what is going on, focus with this camera has never been an issue. But no doubt this is a very tough beastie to focus!

Plaubel Auto Makiflex with 360mm f6.8 Schneider Tele-Xenar in Plaubel Makiflex auto-iris mount. My first tst of this new to me lens. A nice compliment to my 360mm Tele-Arton, which is bigger and faster.

I've just mounted a 7" Aero Ektar on mine. It's super fun to shoot with, and the Makiflex was so heavy already that adding another few pounds of metal and glass onto the front is barely noticeable

Very nice!

I need to get out and do some location test images with the B&L Super Cinephor 159mm F2 Cinema Projection Lens. Great fun on the standard Makiflex. Won't fit inside the Makiflex Automatic cameras, the lens is huge and pushing the envelope on this Makiflex Standard camera.

I attached the board to the lens with a copious amount of J&B Weld metal epoxy. Worked great.

Petzval Lens Six Inch F3.5 from London by Nokton48, on Flickr

I suspect a projection lens, purchased from an antique shop in London. A six incher, prolly about F3.5 I removed a crudely made waterhouse stop to maximize the lens effects. The stop was darkened with candle soot.

Can not find anywhere a flange for this lens. But it fits PERFECTLY on this Plaubel 120mm square lens board. Turning the knob racks it tightly against the board and is lightproof.

Flowers Back Porch J Lane Dry Plate Multigrade dev by Nokton48, on Flickr

Taken today with brass lens in #566 ^^^

9x12cm J Lane Dry Plate, loaded into a 9x12cm RADA Normalfaltz Single Plate Holder. Exposed in Plaubel Makiflex Automatic with a lens purchased from an Antique shop in the UK. An 8 inch F4 (?) approx brass projection lens of the Petzval variety. 1/4 sec exposure at wide open F4 (?) approx EI of 1, lightest cloud veiling direct key sun. Almost key light. No fill. Glass neg processed in Ilford Multigrade paper dev 10 mins at 20C.

I also shot frames with modern film, Efke PL100 and FOMA 100. Will be interesting to see the differences.

It does have a period look to it.........

J Lane 9x12 Dry Plate Makiflex Petzval ADOX Borax MQ by Nokton48, on Flickr

Another test a direct comparison J Lane Dry Plate 9x12cm in ADOX Borax MQ. Jason makes this formula to match the 1890's emulsion of old, different sensitivity vs. Ilford Ortho + ASA of 1 required shutter speed of two seconds at F4 in key bright sun. No fill About half of the flower tops are quite a bit darker in this dry plate version.

Pecoflex Adapter Makiflex Auto 240 Xenar 1 by Nokton48, on Flickr

I did a considerable amount of work on my Pecoflex Adapter for the Makiflex Automatics, it wouldn't mount properly on both cameras I own. After adding an extra washer underneath which I stuck on with contact cement, and now it fits everything

This is the long bellows that came with it a Makiflex accessory. I then bought a Peco Jr Bag Bellows for $30 and put it away. Later I bought a Peco Jr Adapter and modified the Bag (moving one of the frames 45 degrees, and used hobby modeling brass screws and Pliobond Cement to put it all back together. Some dremeling of the screws, and application flat black paint and it is finally done!

Shown with the 240mm F4.5 Schneider barrel mount Xenar. I used this with a 4x5 Graphmatic finishing off some HP5+ yesterday. Resulting flower photograph I will show here soon.

Lots of fun being had  This is making something that was never offered by the Plaubel factory. They made a Makiflex Bag Bellows for the Pecoflex Attachment but I have never seen one.

Pecoflex Adapter Makiflex Auto 240 Xenar 2 by Nokton48, on Flickr

This pleated Bellows works best with long lenses. Really long Maki lenses I own are set up on top hats meant for the Wista lensboards. Nice metalwork from China and screws together in many configurations. Easy to change things around.

A new to me Makiflex Auto arrived today from Prague. This one came with the Voigtlander Heliar 210mm F4.5 in Makiflex Auto iris. I've been watching this camera for years, decided to pull the trigger. So now I have three Auto Makiflexes and a Makiflex Standard. I really wanted the Heliar Auto lens............... I'll clean it up as I have time and it will go into rotation with my other cameras.

This one has over 26,000 actuations and has been customized a bit. Quite interesting

New Auto Makiflex 210 Heliar Auto 2 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Another view of my new Auto Makiflex with 210mm Auto Heliar.

I'm quite happy with this camera so far. I photographed some roses on the back deck yesterday, the Heliar is sooooo beautiful to look through. I absolutely love it!

I did just order an original Makiflex Automatic fresnel lens from a dealer on Ebay.

My Makiflex Cameras by Nokton48, on Flickr

Here are my four Makiflexes (three Autos and a Standard) ready for use. This morning I was out photographing a new flower arrangement on my back deck. I used the 21cm f4.5 Makiflex Auto iris Heliar, that the rig on the far left.

Bokeh at F16 with the Heliar is magnificent. I shot four 9x12cm HP5+ sheets in Voigtlander plate holders.

I really like this new camera. It's like an old friend, as comfortable as an old pair of favorite shoes

I have quite a lot of new exposed film to develop as I have time.
