Makiflex Pecoflex Adapter 1 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Today I am tuning up the Makiflex to Pecoflex Adapter, on Makiflex Auto Body #2. Getting ready to take this out.

I've put together a kit of mostly Xenars to fully utilize the cameras. The shortest usuable seems to be about 210mm, so that one, plus the 240mm Xenar, and the 360mm Tele-Xenar. All original Plaubel Makiflex Auto stuff.

This rig is fun to use. There are plenty of camera movements in the front, and it's intuitive to use. Need a tripod.

Will be shooting 9x9cm B&W on 9x12cm format film.

^^ The 210mm Auto Makiflex Xenar focused at infinity. Still plenty of room for full tilting, and a large amount of front rise if needed.

Peco Jr Bag Bellows converted to Pecoflex by Nokton48, on Flickr

Years ago I bought this Peco Jr Bag Bellows for $40 from a local dealer. Always figured I would find something to do with it. Yesterday I started to convert it to fit the Makiflex to Pecoflex Adapter. By removing the smallish front frame (glued to the front of the bag), and orienting it sideways (45 degree turn), it can be used with Makiflex, by using the adapter to the left.

I drilled out the rivits holding the front frame, turned the front plate 45 degrees, and reattached the front of the bag, using micro brass modeling screws. VOILA! Something useful at last.

Needs final assembly and gluing. This is an item I have not seen in the Makiflex catalogs I have. Useful with shorter lenses on the Maki to Pecoflex Adapter.

Maki to Pecoflex Adapter New Bag Bellows by Nokton48, on Flickr

The Bag Bellows for the Maki to Pecoflex Adapter is ready to use now. Final assembly will have to wait, as I wait for more contact cement and #1 and #2 Brass Hobby Model Screws to arrive.

Shown with Recessed Peco Jr Lensboard (which fits Maki Adapter, and decreases bellows extension) YAY!!) and Durst 180mm F5.6 Schneider Componon, lens (shown) focused at Infinity. Plenty of room now for extreme camera movements, Thanks to Bag Bellows. The camera repair Guru Ken Ruth got me started using Componons as taking lenses. Dirt cheap fine Plasmat type derivatives. I have the entire set.

So now this THING is really like a 1960s version of a Fuji GX680.

9x12 cm Linhof Makiflex Holder 1 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Last week I came back upon my Makiflex Sheet Film Back. This has some interest here I know so I thought I would show you how it works. I'm getting ready to load three kinds of 9x12 cm sheet film. Efke PL100, Fomapan 100, and Orwo NP22.

This holder also fits 4x5" Graphic Graflex and Linhof Holders. Very versatile.

9x12 cm Linhof Makiflex Holder 2 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Here's the Linhof 9x12 back inserted into the Makiflex Sheet Holder. Note the back is fully extended to fit the thicker Linhof holders. You can see the built-in pressure plate when darkslide is removed, some claim sharper results with Linhof PP holders

9x12 cm Linhof Makiflex Holder 4 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Here's a close up of the adjustable lever (in the center) which allows you to go from Linhof, then also, to the thinner Graflex Graphic holders, with a flip of the switch. Spring loaded mechanism and the holders fit very tightly.

This holder puts a 9x9cm image onto 9x12cm sheet film. The rounded corners are just a bonus.
You can also do the same thing with 4x5" Graphic or Linhof holders (both kinds thick and thin)

I've thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread! Always wanted a Linhoff large format but never got one.

If you (or anyone else reading this thread) are interested, I have a beautiful Linhof catalog from (I think) 1956. I can look up part numbers or scan any particular pages of interest. Just PM me.

B&L 159.1mm F2 Super Cinephor on Maki Std by Nokton48, on Flickr

In bright key sun I can shoot J Lane EI 2 glass negs, at 1/125, which is the top speed of Makiflex Standard. Here a 9x12cm glass plate is loaded, this will be 9x9cm on 9x12cm material. These happen to be Voigtlander plate holders, I have many kinds.

Camera mounted and balanced on Manfrotto Monopod, ready to shoot. It's a GOOD workout to carry this beast around. Monopod a necessity I think as I get older.

Bokeh and DOF/"look" is amazing. This is a theatrical projection commercial 35mm and 70mm commercial motion picture type. This lens will focus out to about 25 feet, enough for my uses. Intend to do some portraits soon.

I used JB Weld metal epoxy to glue the lens to a board with correct size hole. This lens will fit on Makiflex Standard, but not on Automatic Makiflex deluxe model.

Maki Orwo 22 6x9 sheet Microphen by Nokton48, on Flickr

Testing some extremely old NP20 6.5x9cm sheet, purchased from seller in Bulgaria. Microphen used per suggestion. I have quite a bit of this film. Focus thin but looks sharp on the branch I focused on.

Hi!
I was lucky enough ... So i have a Makiflex Standard now. What I am looking for is some kind of documentation about the gear. I couldn't find anything on the net. My future plan is 3d printing a sheet film back. Any experience? Thanks a lot in advance! Miklos

I'd love to obtain a 4x5 back for my Makiflex. I bodged up one that works but is nowhere near the focal plane, so ground glass is required for focus. I've thought about 3d printing a proper back, but not having a 3d printer is a bit of a hurdle :-/

If you do manage to come up with a working design please post it here!

Using a depth gauge you should be able to measure from the film in the Plaubel Roll Back to the flat end of the adapter.

This distance should be close for building a sheet film back. Shim material could fine tune the focal point of the back.

Matt Abelson has made a custom made machined Makiflex back.

I have been thinking about how much I have enjoyed using my 4x5 Graphic Graphmatic Back with my Sinar Normas. Precise to use, lightweight compared to Riteways or Liscos, Rapid Firepower in a small package. So I -finally- found my Graphmatic down in the studio, and decided to gift myself two more, for XMAS.

With this new stuff^^ I can rack off eighteen 9x9cm exposures, as fast as I can wind, and cycle the holders. Should be as speedy as one can be with a Makiflex

Plaubel Makiflex with Custom Back by Matt Abelson, on Flickr

Here is Sneebot's CNC Machined Graflock Makiflex Back. Matt told me years ago he could make more of these for a price. I suspect his creation is an improvement on the original Maki design  This to me is amazing.

Note also the extension lensboard up front. He machines these from a solid block of aluminum, I believe.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Automatic Makiflex Auto 150 Symmar Graphmatic Porro by Nokton48, on Flickr

I renovated the Porro Finder, note the two screws holding the interior mirror, which I have beefed up. The rubber eyecup is actually a lenshood I bought just for this purpose. Works perfectly.

With the Porro Finder the image is upside down, which I am used to. I enjoy this as a compositional aid. With the Graphmatic and auto iris lens I can shoot six rapid fire shots as fast as I can work the mechanisms.
