Pretty much the same machine as far as scanning quality. Unless you are on a Apple silicon or really care about faster scanning there is no reason to upgrade.
Id be curious how much faster the new model is compared to the XAs. That is what I have. When you are spending 4 to 5 hours scanning at 5000 to 10000 dpi per 36 roll, saving time would be a benefit. Again what slows me down (besides the high rez setting), is centering each frame for each scan. Sometimes I have to correct it, as its off. I think in the future Im just going to do digital camera scanning with a GFX camera. Until then, I use what I have available. I also use an Epson V850, and though its scans are soft, its colors are better and its quicker to use.

Last time I spoke to PI they said it is a lot faster.
My trick is to scan the whole strip and than center rescan the pictures I like.
What I really like I print from the negative

I dont find their listed time for 5000 dpi to be accurate for the XAs. Its closer to 4 and 5 minutes. Its around 7 to 8 minutes for 10000.

After two XAs failures, I thought I'd try the XEs. I don't need full roll scanning, so it seemed like a good option.

I compared scans to my Plustek 8200 using Vuescan, and I prefer the Plustek. This surprised me, given the reviews on filmscanner.info.

I'm no scanning expert, but the Plustek scans look sharper and more detailed with more open shadows. And preview and scan are faster on the Plustek. I also find the Plustek negative holder easier to load. It hinges at the long end rather than the short side.

Just thought I'd share my experience, FWIW.
