So I go out on a morning shoot today and one of the cameras I brought was a Pentax 67II. Haven't had any issues with the camera till today. But I wonder if it was my fault for that? I loaded a roll into it over a week ago, and it was ready to shoot on shot #1. But I had to remove the roll (in a dark bag), so I could use another roll in the camera, and the roll that was in there I put in my other 67 camera to test that camera. My procedure for removing the roll out of the 67II was (after it was in my dark bag), I opened the back, dropped the pin holding the bottom of the film takeup reel, and slid out the roll. I don't think I turned the film in any way while removing it. I closed the back waiting for todays shoot. So today I try to load my first roll into. What happened was the winder lever was moving as it should, but the film reel was not spinning. So I took out the take up spool and looked. I tried winding again. What I noticed was the center of the winding spool section was turning, but the outer ring around the center, would not turn. I could not get the outer take up ring to turn no matter how many times I wound the lever. So I gave up on using the camera today for its shoot. Got it home. I put a slight bit of pressure on the outer ring, and it would not turn. I stopped because I didnt want to strip any gears. Fiddling with it some more, opening the back and closing, etc, and somehow I got the shutter to fire. Before it wouldnt fire during the winding process. So I thought, good, some progress. But then winding there wasnt any tension on the lever and again the shutter would not fire. So played with it some more and eventually the shutter would fire. When the shutter was working again, I noticed the outer wind spool thingy (the slots where the reel sits in its grooves) was turning again, as was the center portion. And I noticed the tension on the wind mechanism was good again. Fired off the shutter some more times after each wind, and now the camera seems good again. Was the camera stuck in a mode during the time I removed the film with opening the back, screwing up the whole shutter process? Im just happy I dont have to send the camera in for service, unless I end up having more wind issues in the future. Anyone knows what was going on with my camera?
