I called them for you, they are in the process of moving. Message said call back in a few weeks.

"Swedish Medical Bag" is what I got.

I've been out shooting with my fave Makina II with 7.3cm Orthar, I'm putting through many rolls, alternating between Kentmere 400 120, and HP5+ 120 as well. Rating at 800, and developing for Ei 1600 is my plan. D23 is my go-to for now. In bright sunlight I'm shooting at F25 with the Orthar, focus set to four meters. According to the DOF Makina tables for the Orthar, that's 1.5 meters to infinity sharp. So it's a WIDE Makina point and shoot. Quite a hoot to use such a quirky operating camera. It's great fun to use. Will post some new photos soon. BTW I'm still using the Olde wooden spools with the 120 Makina backs. A Minolta incident meter for checking the light, and the Makina body with Domke Gripper strap. Works for me.

I've just (finally) processed eight rolls of 120 HP5+, and Kentmere 400, both shot at EI 800 in my fave Makina II body. I was mainly testing the 7.3cm Plaubel Orthar, which looks quite excellent and sharp in the B&W negatives. Also one roll I tested my Plaubel F6.8 Telephoto, on a local Church Spire. Focus looks good on the film using the instructions I got here. I'll next be printing the negatives and digitizing the b&W prints. I'll post them here. Stay tuned.

For Makina Wide Angle the EI 800 speed is a Godsend. They did not have films with such quality back in the Olden Days when EI 50 was fast.

Nice little images! They have a pleasant rounded "sharpness" to them and a lovely tone.
Did you focus on the church tower through the ground glass or just set infinity or ??

Hi Robert! Here is my 21cm procedure, which I have now verified is the correct way to do it. I think these are Plaubel instructions, translated from the German (I think):


To use it, you need to do the following preparation:
1. Set the focusing on the lens(not the body) to infinity and turn the knob on the body until the image on the ground glass is sharp on infinity.
2. Mark this position on the makinas bodies distance scale. This will be the position at which the Tele-Makinar is sharp. (I USED A THIN BLUE SHARPIE MARKER TO DO THIS ON MY MAKINA II).
3. Now you can use the scale on the lens to set the focus(while having the hand on the bodys distance scale set to the point where the lens is sharp at infinity).

To use it with the rangefinder, you can first focus with the rangefinder, then transfer the distance to the lens and set the body back to the marking for sharpness at infinits.

Notice the precision framing at the edges top and bottom. The Makina Viewfinder is quite accurate to the film and allows this kind of precision framing if you wish. Not bad for a rangefinder!

So, that is the way you framed it when shot and not a crop after the fact?

Hi Robert! Yes I composed starting at extreme edges top and bottom, adjusting camera distance and position, until framing was -right- where I wanted it. No cropping after the fact in this case.

I'm quite impressed with the accuracy of the Makina Glass Viewfinder. Good enough to frame precision compositions.
