We are discussing the Nikon F2 vs. the Canon F1. Still no photo of the Canon F1. Yet in comes a photo of someone's Leica. Apparently, any time is a good time for a photo of a Leica.

it just happened to be beside an F w a prism..... is that offensive to you?

I don't have any photos of my cameras. I guess I missed the memo. There are scores of threads over of RFF where people post photos of their cameras. Mostly Leicas, but sometimes other cameras posed next to a cup of coffee. Probably taken with a phone. Like I said, I don't understand why people take and post pictures of their cameras, especially if they are just run of the mill cameras like Nikons and Leicas.

You may not have noticed, but this is not RFF nor LFPF either.

Certainly wouldn't want to commit the unpardonable sin of posting a photo on a photo forum....

Here's a photo of a Leica with a beer taken with an iPhone.
Does that bother you?

...and here's a photo of a Leica all by it's lonely - also taken with an iPhone.
Is it the beverage or the camera that troubles you?

Why do people post pictures of their cameras? Particularly common cameras like Nikons and Leicas?

Because it is no longer considered prudent to post photos of their (grand)kids 😉 😉:whistling:.

Yes, I've found that puzzling. This is a photography forum, yet very few posts include photos. There are many other hobby forums I participate in that are unrelated to photography, yet the users of those forums include far more photos in their posts than here. Go figure...

It is not so much a sin as it is inexplicable. I am interested in the psychology of it.

I can understand it if you had to submit photos of your cameras to an insurance company to get coverage or to file a claim. And I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say those never ready cases came with the cameras.

I guess food photos à la Instagram would be OK then too.... & wouldn't offend anyone's sensibilities?

Sort of makes you wonder if they carry photos of their cameras around in their wallets.

Only when they can't have their cameras at their side.
By the way, my Photrio avatar is me holding my Retinette 1B 😃

I found all of those cameras in the land of unloved toys.
I took the photo as part of the effort to find them new homes - where they might be loved or, at least, used occasionally.
I'm happy to report that I was successful in that effort - all fund new homes.
Many were given to enthusiastic college students. Some were sold for parts or repair.

I took the photo of the Barnack Leica with a beer in a cafe to capture a memory.
To remind me of a pleasant day spent walking around the city, taking pictures and enjoying a new-to-me cafe.

The photo of the Leica M4-P was taken to use in a for-sale ad. It has been sold and now.
I have to photo to remind me of that expensive, horrid little nightmare (the camera not the sale).

No, it mystifies me that you would take a photo of your Leica next to a beer and post it. It's not even a German beer.
