The way I see APUG's evolution is there are 3 main membership levels:

Majority
Minority
Micronority

Majority = Changes usually always acknowledged and actioned when possible

Minority= Compromise sought and implemented when possible (for example 'mature content' layer being added to the gallery). Moderations can favor Minority is some cases.

Micronority= Compromise is possible if it is driven at the request of the Majority/Minority. Typically the micronority types will never be happy so are most likely going to be ignored and regarded as APUG not quite being suited for them.

This reminds me of those "schlock" electronics stores that used to plague Fifth Avenue in NYC during the "bad times" and were always "Going Out Of Business".

There is a bazaar on my street that has been doing its third closing sale in a year, but I like to think that it's just because people don't buy enough of his stuff that he can't afford to abandon the business properly...

For my 1700th post I would like to announce to the Majority, Minority, and all the micromidgeons that you're out of luck because:

I'm Staying.

....and I'd like to complain to the mods that I can't make my words REALLY BIG!

Hi Jim,

Thanks for indicating that you are staying. I do not want to see more of the long time and prominent members of APUG exit.

Don't worry about the size of the words - it's the size of the thoughts that count. I personally have never had any trouble with your thoughts and comments, and I'm glad you're staying.

It is impossible to be "perfect" in the eyes of everyone - come to think of it ... this applies to all of Art... and life itself, not just APUG.

So, "Wherever you go, there you are!"

What, why and how we happened to arrive at this place, means very litttle.

We are here - let us live in the moment and look forward to the future.

Jim, I'm glad you're staying. Otherwise someone might get the idea of renaming Galli's Disease after yours truly, and that just won't do.

No seriously: Your knowledge of all things photographic and optic is deeply appreciated.

I am also sick of the "woe is me" BS that crops up occassionally. It's a grown up world out there and it is a grown up world in here. If you are not happy with that I suggest a person sits on their porch reading childrens' books. Its the 'wannabe victims' scenario all over again. This is no more a refuge for the emotionally fragile than it is a soap box for social activists. There is such thing as basic decency and respect, however, I have already had one experience which proved quite clearly that there is nothing you can do for some people when they throw themselves down before you and cry "woe is me you ugly fascist racist brute". My (genuinely bewildered) response was along the lines of, "Que?" Had I knowingly been controversial that would have been different, however, this was far from the case......

Jim-

perhaps you should have me photograph them. Then they'll show up in 99 point typeface, and attract far more attention than you ever expected them to :D

USENET and Yahoo Groups have these every once in awhile. I am glad the moderators and admin won't put up with it here! Really is a downer.

You know - we do put up with them. Then we laugh at them for a while, and delete them to deprive everyone else of the pleasure! :D

Right, why is someone who is leaving going to care about this?

Seems to me that the "Goodbye cruel world" type of post is a cry for attention and expression of frustration that is counter-productive to the ends of this group.

Meaning - if someone is really going to leave - they are going to just leave, stop reading and posting.

True, most of those post are more or less cry for sympathy, or to publicly bash a problem against a member or members, not really a leaving thread just a "I'll threaten that I'm leaving, and see what happens" thread.

I think it's time an APUG Complaints Choir is formed. Then people could state their complaints and still stray in APUG. Singing is good for releasing tension. Here is how it's done in Helsinki http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATXV3DzKv68 worth a listen.

I'm so glad you posted this. I found out about this a few days ago from a friend outside of APUG, and I can't watch it enough! Someone finally cracked open my skull and splayed the contents out on a page of musical notation!

I sure wish there was one of those here in North Texas. Even though I can't sing a lick, I'd join up in a heartbeat, but there isn't. Where do I go to complain about that?

-KwM-

(check out the Complaint Choir of Birmingham, too )

I've been really busy lately and can no longer get APUG at work. I'd seriously love a quick PM from someone letting me know which "prominent members" left and why.

I would say give the guys and guys who want to leave a break and let them talk. If anyone wants to leave APUG let them have their say on the way out. In fact, I would favor creating a special forum for the departing to contain the discussion. If prominent members of APUG are leaving, for whatever reason, let's hear why. How can that hurt the forum?

A lot of people leave a lot of places for a lot of reasons.

What makes someone "prominent" here? And why if someone is "prominent" does their leaving become more important than if a non-prominent member leaves?

Does the departure of a "prominent" member mean they will take their entourage with them and we who remain will be left with a lesser site? What if a "prominent" member leaves because they are "going to the dark side" but do not want anyone to know - so instead they fabricate an insult "sufficient enough" for them to announce a Grand Exit?

If we knew the real reason in such an instance, would be be regretful or, more likely, say "good riddance"?

I don't celebrity chase in the rest of my life so why would I do it here?

I didn't come to APUG because I wanted to bask in the reflected aura of some "prominent member" so I really don't care if one leaves!
