Friday's weather has moved the 40% chance of rain to the morning. The afternoon and evening should be clear.

Hi All,
Is there dinner plans for Friday?

Sue and I are probably going to go to the ledges on Sat AM early walk and shoot after we go to the field where the arena used to be to look for birds. Then probably swing by for moring rolls by 10ish on Sat. Maybe back out for a while if a spot is choosen.

Sat afternoon hot mid day sun may be a good time to see the exhibit at the museum about Detroit and hide from the ugly sun. Evening Sat open to location ideas.

Sunday hope to have suggestions for a morning shoot then join for breakfast. Forget the name of the place we went last time or its location but it was great, hope we can find that place again Sunday.

So looking forward to see everyone. Remeber save up your birding questions for Sue and if some would like to go on a special bird walk Sunday morning I'm certain she would love to do so. Bring binocs.

I'm happy to hear that Daniel Lin is coming; I haven't seen him in a couple of years and greatly admire his photographs. More friends from the Midwest Large Format Asylum are coming, too, and I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones this weekend. Film holders are loaded and I'm ready to roll! I won't have any new prints, though: between power problems, a killer work schedule for the past few weeks, and the high temperatures, all I've managed in the darkroom for the past month is to keep up with developing film.

Lee,

This was the tentative schedule, post #97, which included several of your ideas. Anything can be changed, but this is a starting point.

Tentative Schedule:

Friday: Meet and Greet at our house at 5:00 PM.
Show and Tell if there are enough people or late afternoon shooting around the pond and woods. We could do Mexican or go to the Musketeers a mile away for pizza and burgers. Think about which you would like to do.

Saturday: There has been a mix of interest in rough terrain. The two waterfalls Blue Hen and Buttermilk are about a mile from the Richfield Family Restaurant. Ritchie or Kendall Ledges are about seven miles away. The Coliseum Grasslands is half way between. All three places can be visited at day break or later. Brunch (10 - 11 AM) can be when people show up at the Richfield Family Restaurant.

In the afternoon people can swap places or we can do show and tell. Talk to me about dinner interests.

Sunday: Early risers go where they want. Meet for rolls and coffee 10:00 AM our house. The Akron Art Museum opens at 11:00 AM and is about a half hour drive from us. Those who want to see the show can go. Those who would prefer to shoot can. If anyone is interested in any of the other places described earlier in the thread I can take you or direct you there and see the show another time.

My brother and his family have been here all week and are leaving on Sat., so as of yet I still don't know if I can make it. If I can I will let you know but it will be spontaneous. I now have a cell phone AND a GPS that works so that helps. so John, if you want to pm me your phone number I'll at least be able to call or text you if I decide to come. But it will be last minute. Just don't know yet.

Dorothy,

It wouldn't be you if it wasn't spontaneous. Hope you make it. You always add much to the party. PM sent.

FYI: Surprise. They started paving the road in front of our house this AM from the stop light at Brecksville/Cleveland-Massillon Rd. to about a half mile west of our house. I don’t know how far they will get by 5:00 PM, but beware of single lane with a flag man, hot tar and loose stones. Sorry. They didn’t ask.

We had a 45 minute downpour starting about 6:00 AM. The girls and I were going out the door for an early walk. This should help the streams and falls for your views. Our grass had been drying up so this also may help the coliseum grasslands. No more rain is expected until next week.

My friend Lynn is moving to Alabama for 2 years next week and just talked me into spending Saturday with her... I've got a family picnic Sunday evening so now I'm thinking of driving over for early shooting and coffee Sunday morning and heading home afterward.

What is it they say about the best laid plans?

Thanks, John!

Just a heads up for the locals and anyone else passing through:

Art Wolfe (digital, sshhhh) is in Canton today. Sounds like his show will be up for awhile. Link to the gallery HERE.

I guess Clyde Butcher was there a month or so ago. A place we should keep our eyes on.

Ok I give up, where did you guys hide!

I got off work early to meet up but could not find anyone at Fishers, Whiteys, Richfield Family, Country Maid, McDonalds, Wendy's, or Musketeers.

In situations like this "Lassie" could always indicate in detail where people went and what they did, but the girls only looked at me and tilted their heads sideways...

Being the nice guy that I am, I did try to take up conversation with a Biker Guy at Musketeers. He did inform me, though, that "Film aint curved..."

"

Dale,

Sorry. We (ten of us) went to the three Horses (in Spanish) in Montrose.

Two more have just arrived from Cinnci and Indy.

Saturday 10-11 AM people are going to wander in to Richfield Family Restaurant from Blue Hen Water Fall and Kendall Ledges.

I very much enjoyed this weekend. Thanks John and Dolly for opening your home up to us.

I enjoyed meeting many new people and seeing some excellent photographs.

To those that offered advice on taking my film photography to the next level, to the point where I can at least do the processing at home, I'll take you up on the offer. Watch out for a PM from me!

I'm already looking forward to the next meet up.

thanks, Jeff

Jeff,

It was such a pleasure to see you go from a half day visitor last event to a three day participant two months later. I’m glad you enjoyed the weekend. That sort of enthusiasm snowballs, even in this heat, and helps everyone enjoy the gathering. I certainly will be glad to follow up on my offer, as I am sure anyone else who made one, will.

Dolly and I went to the Akron Art Museum this afternoon and saw two great shows. If you missed it, come back, because you really missed two excellent exhibits. Having seen the Andrew Moore video, listened to interviews on NPR, listened to Jeff on and on, I at least had some idea what to expect. Wrong, blown away by the quality, drama, presentation, subject. Really wonderful prints, subjects, ideas, sentiments. I sorta liked it.

That in no way prepared me for the Arctic Re-visions: Isaac Julien's True North June 5, 2010 - October 3, 2010 http://www.akronartmuseum.org/exhibitions/details.php?unid=1497

Three giant movie screens in a barren room with one row of seats. Each screen contributed to a whole photographically that made me realize just how long ago was Cinemascope. The film was powerful, overwhelming, fantastic. Congratulations home town art museum. I am really happy we are here to see your offering. Thank you.

Back home safe and sound and have worked through the important part of the "honey do" list, I have a moment to mix up some film developer and say thanks to John, Dolly, and the girls, and all of the great photographers I met, for putting up with me for the weekend. I had a great time, hopefully have some good photographs, and am looking forward to a return. I enjoyed meeting everyone and learned a lot from the weekend. The Cuyahoga Valley National Park looks like it has a lifetime's worth of material!

Thanks again for a great weekend John and Dolly.
Sue and I enjoyed the new faces and new places. Sue is healing up from the hornet attack, although it is still tender. Dolly thanks again for the ice!

We both are looking forward to the fall visit. Keep the dates locked in once I hear from you. Got to capture a wedding Oct 9th, so I know that date is out for me, but if that turns out to be the magical date, go for it.

Thank you John, Dolly and the girls once again for your hospitality in hosting these gatherings. It was wonderful to see what others are doing photographically, and to explore beautiful Cuyahoga Valley NP.

All the best,
Daniel
