My new (film!) website

Folks -
Longtime Ape Hugger here, but I finally emptied out all my shoeboxes and checked under the bed for old negs and got enough for a website of my work.

Love to know what you think - seriously, good and bad - and I should say the first 4 categories under "Portfolio" are all film images. (As is, obviously, the category "Film Images")

Nice simple layout. I don't mind flash if thats what it is.

The photography is stellar. I only have time to check the first b&w gallery of China but it makes me want to return to see more when I can look at leisure.

The night shots are impressive and the rez/detail on some of the scans looks great.

More than good, Colin. One of the most remarkable collections of images I've seen. I didn't have much time but viewed every image anyway. I couldn't stop.
Looked great on a 27 inch monitor, too. Some dust on a couple of images but, so what. Great stuff!

Thanks folks...for the record, it was done on a WordPress template so it'll run on iPhones/iPads, etc. -- no Flash used.

A little sheepish that I repeated one of the images in the Newspaper section! Always a glitch, eh?

Great website Colin, the layout is unobtrusive and leaves more focus on the images themselves. The photography isn't the subject matter that I usually am intrigued with, but your shots are absolutely wonderful--well done!

EDIT: One problem I found; when I went to the purchase print area and clicked to enlarge the thumbnail, the image came in hi-res but I couldn't scroll to the left or right to see the whole image. Also, it didn't say what the format was---looks like some sort of alt process.

I agree with the good comments here to the limited extent of only seeing three images, all that I could get Australian country "broadband", with a speed of something like a dozen bytes per day, would download in twenty minutes

So, my only negative comment is that your site is too big to be viewed in third world countries like the Australian bush

Great images, but I had trouble with speed of loading and some images seem to load offside of frame. I appreciate the photography, but the website needs some serious adjustments.

Really gorgeous work - sensitive, skillful, versatile. The shot of the monk in the temple courtyard is outstanding. Yes, the images load slowly for me too and it took me a while for my antique brain to figure out how to get into the site from the opening page. On reflection, the slow loading is probably a good thing. Your photos are to be savoured, like a fine wine, not thrown down the throat like cheap beer at a BBQ.

I looked at the photos of China (my service provider slows me down after a bit, and it was all I could see with a reasonable wait) and they are wonderful. I agree with the others who said it is slow to load, but my main concern is that (on my screen at least), most of the "square" photos appear to go offscreen - I'm never sure I'm looking at the whole image. The website design is simple and effective, and as I said the China pics at least are great.

Very slow load, both initially for the site and later for individual pictures, through my medium-speed DSL line. Also, having the pictures bleed all the way to the edge of the window is disconcerting - hard to escape the feeling that something is being cropped. (Is it?)

I thought the menus and thumbnails were distracting until I discovered that you can make them go away by moving the cursor out of the window. Very nice!

Yup, seems to be a common refrain -- slow to load, although sometimes it's OK at my end. Hard to say...as for the picture bleed, you're getting the whole deal.

Easiest way is to keep the cursor off screen and use the arrow keys to navigate. I had to learn that by trial and error...
