I just Googled Light Impressions to see how their website looks these days and, when I clicked on the link, I got a blank page saying "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)" Apparently, their website is down - hopefully, for good!

Right after the Google listing for LightImpressionsDirect are the BBB and APUG thread...

I know of a few sources;

Archival Print and some negative storage bags;
Bags Unlimited, www.bagsunlimited.com

Archival storage boxes, also some print bags (Not to mention Library supplies- their main business)
Brodart Inc, www.shopbrodart.com

Frame Destinations, they advertise here

General archival supplies, boxes, mat board, etc.;
University Products, http://www.universityproducts.com

My wife has been buying stuff from Bags unlimited and Brodart for quite a long time for her bookstore, I recently bought a clamshell storage box from them which looks to be just fine, and was resonable cost.
I've used Frame Destinations along with many others here in APUG land.
I've not purchased from University Products, but they are a well regarded supplier here in the North East (U.S.), located in Holyoke, MA and do mail order via the web, etc.

VaryaV,

Try PrintFile they have a location in Florida and are APUG supporters. My experiences have been positive. Prompt, courteous and accurate responses.

Thanks, Jeffrey... That's great to know. I have used some of PrintFiles stuff before but always ordered it from other companies.

Too bad about LI, they were a good company once... I have bought a ton of stuff from them too.

Thanks bdial thanks Keith. Bookmarked...

I need to keep a supplier for my dry mounting supplies and adhesives and all that goes into into pressing/mounting.

Sorry, OP, didn't mean to hijack the thread. :smile:

Hollinger Metal Edge is another reputable business that is a pleasure to deal with. They have everything you can possibly imagine in terms of presentation and archival storage supplies (except for frames). Request their catalogue and you'll be amazed at the breadth and depth of their product lines. They do a lot of business with museums.

All,

I've started a thread where we can put links to resources for supplies. It will be easier to find in a dedicated thread, rather than at the end of this one.

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

It's the failure of the system (legal & commerce) to take effective action against Light Impressions. No one who has posted on this thread is making this stuff up. Part of the problem is that those entities responsible for enforcement are most likely having difficulty isolating and identifying who to go after since LI is a subsidiary of a holding company that keeps changing its name and contact information.

The owner of Light Impressions is New Century Direct. Their entity number in the Dead Link Removed is C3096879. Do a lookup on this number and you'll get the name and address of their process agent. That's the official legal entity you serve when you sue them. If you live in California and they've stiffed you, I'd file against them in small claims court in a heartbeat.

Light Impressions

Don't order from these people. I too had my items on backorder since May and I really don't expect to ever see them. Contacted BBB and they didn't get a response from Light Impressions. Contacted my credit card and they are taking care of it and hopefully will get my money refunded.

Welcome to APUG. I hope you do get a refund after this much time. The BBB can not do much. Contact the Federal Trade Commission and fill out a complaint. Write the Calif. Attorney General's office, even if you don't live in this State. The more times they hear about the creeps the better.

Thanks, but I received a refund a few months ago after filing complaints with the California AG, BBB and a few others. I think I'm one of the lucky ones.

Filing in small claims court gets you a judgment and after that (using your judgment), you have to file to obtain a writ of execution. It's up to you after that. In California, you have up to 10 years to pursue action in order to satisfy the judgment. Other states may vary.

I wouldn't expect to get the money back. The one common thread about companies like that is that no matter what else happens, the money's gone. Always.

It pains me to see that people are being hurt by Light Impressions and so few are made whole.

is there even a bricks and mortar store where someone can go in person and beeotch ?

I wish I had known about their problems before I ordered in June. I haven't received my material either. I was told - four to six weeks several times. Now, my credit card company says they can't help as the charge is over 60 days old. I filed with the BBB but is there anywhere else I can file? The company so longer answers their phone - just the message "your call is important to us, please hold". Ha!

As has been stated in this thread, file complaints with the CA. Attorney General's office, even if you're not in California. The more complaints they hear the more likely they are to take action. And file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. Light Impressions ship across state lines, so the Feds can go after them if they realize the size of the problem.

Has anyone complained to the Federal Trade Commission?

They're engaged in interstate commerce, so federal consumer protection laws apply.

everyone should file!! against Light Impressions

I also was taken on my order from Dec 2010!! as were hundreds of others. Numerous phone calls to Taylor Clark the Supv at Light Impressions and numerous promises of a check to come!! B S!! I have filed with the Federal Trade commission. The FTC is not allowed to compare how many complaints they recieve against one company!! How stupid is that!! I spoke to a supv there today, who told me that would be "singling out". WHAT GOOD DOES THAT DO? Apparently The BBB knows, but what action are they taking?? She recommended the State Consumer Protection division. I am appalled that this can continue with hundreds of people getting ripped off and NO ONE has the power to put a stop to this!! New Century Direct must know this and can just keep on frauding people. We all should put this on every site imaginable, think of those who do not know.
Please any new info would be appreciated.

I filed with the FTC , called them today and got a supv. who told me they are not allowed to look and see how many are filed against a particular company! GEEZ there hundreds of us who have been ripped off. BBB is useless it seems, I do live in Calif and will file in small claims. But that only gets me a judgement against them no $$. I will now file with State Attny General's office. Spread the word about this ruthless company.

"Ruthless" is right. Good for you!

I bad mouth them every chance I get which means to a lot of students, and on other websites, and a few local stores. As if that helps, don't know what a local store can do, but it makes me feel better.

I work for a company that has some overlap with Light Impressions. Although we dont mind the extra customers, it is sad to get them this way. Light Impressions use to be a great company and I am shocked to see what has become of them. It is shocking to me what companies can get away with. If I so much as take a pack of cigarettes from the store I will be in jail for a while. Since I work for a competitor I am not going to participate in this myself, but I can tell you what you can do since I am sick of hearing about what this company is doing to people. If the company I work for starts abusing its customers you can use the same techniques against my company.

This thread is a very good way to get the word out. It is already on page 1 of Google for searches on "Light Impressions". Here is how you can get more stuff on page one of google about them, and increase the odds of this thread going to #2.

Do a blog post about light impressions and make sure you use the term "light impressions" at least 3 times in the text and use it in the title and other tags if you know hot to set them. Then link to this thread and the one on photo.net about them. Then post here in this thread with a link back to your blog. Google will then see your blog while also seeing more activity in this thread. Activity and links from other places are what google loves. Also, do posts in other forums linking to your blog and linking to this thread and cross linking with other threads. The more links you have to your blogs the more weight google gives the link from your blog to this thread. Eventually the first couple pages of google will be filled with blogs and forum posts letting people know what is going on. If you have a google+ account post about Light Impressions there and link to here and the photo.net thread. You can also do Facebook posts but Google cant see friend pages, only fan pages.

If you google "light impressions problems" you can find lots of other threads and blogs about them that you can link to from here, blogs and other forum posts.

Good luck and lets hope that Light Impressions can wake up.
