On 28th? Hmm. I could be an inclusion in the Kilcunda trip, aborting my Tassie walk until there is a tempting bit of sunshine and less rain and cold.

Is this a two-day hang out or a one day sortie?

There is a caravan park at Kilcunda if I remember correctly, so that would be a good place to set up on the Friday and rendezvous with the group somewhere on Saturday? So, is there a post-mortem at the local distillery or is everybody going to shoot through to the big smoke immediately afterward?

Well we will be there with our camper on the back of the ute, unless it's hellish, our intention is to stay on Saturday night. However that doesn't necessarily mean in Kilcunda caravan park, we could travel a bit and stay in the bush, which is our usual form.

But to answer Joachim, yep, Kilcunda is the place, Saturday the 28th is the date.

I just checked the local caravan park, they've changed their name for a more upmarket one, but they have cabins, deluxe cabins and ocean front villas (cabins). They also have winter rates that finish at the end of August. The piccies look good.

We intend at this stage to be there Saturday, although if the weather is reasonable, we would go down on Friday afternoon/evening.

Well I telephoned the caravan park and booked a powered site for a Friday and Saturday night stay. Power will be handy to run the heater, as apparently we have a cliff top view of the beach/water, if we don't get blown away that is.

Apparently there is reasonably heavy bookings for that weekend, they only have a couple of standard cabins left, so if any of you are thinking of sharing a cabin in the park, you better move sooner rather than later.

The winter discount applies for two or more nights stay and is 20%.

So this means we'll be there really early on Saturday morning!

I have the date and (general) location in my diary, but I'm not up for an overnight stay. If there are other day trippers like me we will need a meeting place and time. I haven't been to Kilcunda for years, so can't suggest any place to meet. If anyone else wants to share, I am happy to take up to 3 others. I live in Scoresby, just near Eastlink.

Update Thursday 4th August 0855

I have just come off the phone to Kilcunda Caravan Park.
2 cabins available, $100/night 2 people sharing, 20% discount on the second night.
No unpowered camping if the weather is soggy (!).

Got some timing conflicts to juggle at my end before I dive in, but 80% certain I'm a starter, and now putting out call for a cabin-sharer.
I don't snore and don't care if the other does (being deaf has it's advantages...).

Great that you can join, Garyh.

Booked my cabin as well. Will come with my wife. We will arrive late Friday and leave on Sunday afternoon. Saturday is reserved for APUG.

We should agree on a meeting point for the day visitors (like wotalegend). Question for the day visitors: at what time do you plan to arrive in Kilcunda?

Looking forward to a great weekend!

Uncle Mick, you have posed a very intellectual question.
Of all the people I have slept with (with agreement or no), complaints have never been about snoring. My restlessness means I can usually be found on the floor in the morning...

Google has befuddled me with its map...
How far is Kilcunda from Melbourne... is it via Eastern Freeway and South Gippsland Highway?

Got a Melways after 16 years of procrastinating over such a tome's usefulness.
Wondering why it didn't come along sooner...

Hello all, Is this excursion still on? And may I invite myself to be part of it? Meeting where and when?

I was just asked "are we still going to Kilcunda on the 28th?" followed by "what time, etc?" - so I hereby "bump" this thread to glean specifics. Google tells me Kilcunda is a 1 hour and 40 minute drive from sunny Hawthorn, so we'd probably get there in time for elevenses. For those in the know, where is a good place to assemble, and does 11am give everyone enough time to get down there?

Wirelessly posted...

Yes, are we still going?
The thread has fallen very quiet — even to a deaf person...
11am seems a trifle late in the morning, maybe 10am? Some travellers will leave for home around 4pm-ish.

For Geelong APUGers interested, the Queenscliff-Sorrento Ferry — an interesting alternative — cuts down the distance to 100km Sorrento-Kilcunda.

I am hoping for a decent break in what has so far been a very soggy and cold tail-end of winter. Gimme sunshine!!

Marc, yep certainly going down. In fact we are staying at the caravan park in our camper, I believe Joachim is also staying there with both of us getting there on Friday evening/night after work.

If you look at a map of Kilcunda you will see reference to a Holiday Retreat, well that's the caravan park and right alongside is probably the main car park for day trippers, maybe people can meet there.

Yeah, 1100hrs seems a bit late, but whatever time you get there it isn't a big place and you should be able to find others easily.

Just prior to entering Kilcunda itself from Melbourne, and on the ocean side, is a car park to a beach with wonderful rock formations and an entry to a good surf beach, think waves, seaweed and rocks, this is where I propose to spend some time taking pictures as I have in the past.

Also I will bring along the prints from the Australian print exchange, of recent times.

We will be leaving on Sunday, whenever, and probably via a circuitous route home.

Marc, from Hawthorn, think two hours, door to beach:D
