BTW did we decide where to go ? And what type of film will people be shooting Agfa APX, Rollei R3 etc ?

Destination has yet to be decided, looks like the date has been decided.

As for film, I propose to shoot flat film, unless I bring along my Horizon 202, in which case I'll be shooting curved film:D

Mick.

The 14th Aug is fine for us - I would love to go anywhere than isn't the Botanical Gardens, that has a decent coffee/lunch spot, and something interesting to photograph!!

Marc

Sydney?

Couldn't resist. In fact Melbourne, in my limited knowledge of the city, is rather more photogenic than the Emerald City.

Regards, have fun - Ross

If we go for an interesting location, photographic wise, then remembering that it is the tail end of winter, maybe somewhere where some shelter is available.

With that in mind, then what about Queenscliff, with neighbouring Point Lonsdale about 5 kliks away.

Queenscliff has an historic railway yard full of interesting locomotives, both steam and diesel, plus their carriages both well presented and stuffed.

There is the very nice pier, beachfront, parks and gardens, plus some well looked after houses and buildings.

Queenscliff has two lighthouses, one a black one inside the military establishment, the other outside and white, both within walking distance. Plus there is the lighthouse at Point Lonsdale, also very accessible, and, I believe manned.

There is an extremely nice bay, Swan Bay, which usually has hundreds, if not thousands of swans, swanning around.

Queenscliff has some nice outdoor type (cheapish) food places of reasonable quality, plus if you wish, you can head into a pub. Although I find they are too much time, money and noise.

Then there was another place the missus and I will be going to this late winter/spring, Kilcunda.

Kilcunda has a very good black rock, rocky outcrop within a very short walk from a car park. If the surf is up and the wind is in the right direction, pack a sturdy tripod and warm clothing. The rock formations, surf hitting the rocks and general beach scene is very photographic.

There is also the trestle bridge, plus a few other oddball things worth exposing film to.

The food available is basic, best to bring a cut lunch.

One good thing about Kilcunda, is the drive either there or home. By taking the back roads, there are some quite incredible hill scenes. We usually head home via the back roads in the late afternoon, with low sunlight, beautiful.

Whatever destination is chosen, we will be staying overnight in our camper, either in the bush, or a caravan park. Best way to get sunsets and sunrises!

Some food for thought.

Speaking of coffee, Sydney isn't too bad, Melbourne is generally better, but from my made in Italy, manual espresso machine, superb!

Mick.

I am keen as long as we go for photography first, chat second & coffee third.

"I am keen as long as we go for photography first, chat second & coffee third."

Yep, photography first, second and third.

Then coffee, then chat.

Mick.

I'll third that. I sorta lean towards Kilcunda but I could be drug (Kickin' an' screamin') to Queenscliff.

I must admit Kilcunda is my preference as well, just photography and a cut lunch.

However, one must appeal to the masses, no?

Mick.

Ummm, just realised, anyone else can put in a plug for any other photographic place to go to.

Mick.

I was in Queenscliff end of the summer lovely place. But strange thing was my sometimes crook knee played up big time on me. So Kilcunda sounds more interesting & I am capable of packing a cut lunch & thermos of coffee.

Can't say I've been to Kilcunda before, sounds interesting. 28th is written in my diary and ready to go!

Google maps street view has Kilcunda, place looks very flat & empty. Plenty of open sea coast perfect for panoramas.

Outing

The 28th is fine for me. There is a caravan park right at Kilcumda. The pub there is good as well.

A pan pinhole of the pretty Powlett should be on somebody's 'To Do' list: that really is a gem in calm conditions.
I'll be walkies in Tassie from 26th so passing this outing up, but heading to The Pinnacles/Woolamai in the second week of September for a look-see, 10 years on. Look forward to seeing some great images of this much-loved area for touring cyclists in the 1980s.

I'm interested in the outing. I hope you accept us modest 35mm shooters. (Just kidding.)

Hi all,

I would love to be there. However my son has sporting commitments on Saturdays. Will have to wait for another outing that is a bit closer to home and ideally during the school holidays.

Kilcunda looks like an excellent destination for an outing. Enjoy

Time to be more specific

I just want to bring this up again. Depending on the destination, some of us may be interested to book an accomodation. Therefore, it is about time to have a more specific plan.

From what I can see, we more or less agreed on Saturday 28 August. We still need to decide on the destination. Mick's suggestions sound good to me. Kilcunda seems to be the favourite so far. I am happy with Kilcunda as well. Opinions?

Best, Joachim
