Matching Barrel lenses to Copal shutters

If the mounting thread of the front cell of the lens in question is 40,0 mm you may safely assume it will fit the Copal/Compur-1 shutter (assuming your shutters are relative modern, i.e. from abt. 1960 or later). I forget where I got the 300 mm Apo-Ronar cells; perhaps came with a defective shutter. But the mounting thread of the front cell is 40,0 mm (likewise the G-Clarons). Lens cells from Apo-Ronar barrel lenses is another story entirely, as far as I know.

Hmm. There are Apo-Ronars and there are Apo-Ronars. I have a pair of 150/9 A-Rs whose cells don't fit any shutter I'm aware of but there's a 150 in Copal #0 on ebay.com. I just looked. There are around 40 others of various focal lengths in various shutters there too.

It's the seemingly "odd" combinations of lenses in shutter that crop up in the used market that always spike my curiosity in this subject.

The one that's still lurking in my subconscious is the Schneider 180mm makro-symmar HM. Factory shuttered used copies are somewhat expensive. The barrel version is much cheaper, and shutters are not too expensive. The trouble lies in finding out all of the factual appropriate measurements prior to spending the money, and if it is ultimately cheaper when you factor in your time.

I'm still on the "money saved" side of my 600mm quest (vs shuttered options), but it has taken a lot of time, and I've only got a Packard shutter which has its own limitations.

I should have posted these images with my original question, but fwiw here are the shutters I'd love to put to use. I don't have the exact dims here but the grid lines in the background are 1cm apart. There are 2 Copal 1 shutters, and a single Copal 0.

Great stuff! You shouldn't have any problems whatsoever with mounting modern barrel G-Clarons in stese shutters, like detailed above. Happy tinkering!
