As a webdeveloper myself I have some serious quirks with the site, I don't feel like listing them here, but from this or that I think the site needed another week or two of actual testing before being launched and probaly on multiple browsers to ensure cross browser compatibility. ... I'm just still waiting for that email though....

Via my ISP (earthlink) my confirm message was nearly instantaneous to hiting "Submit". By the time I opened the relevant e-mail account the confirm message was there.

I just finished downloading the first edition now.

BTW, very nice looking work.

But if this turns out to be a digiMag I'll request a cancellation.

Me and film are trying to hang on by a hair!

Didn't you guys read what he wrote earlier in the posts, as well as the introduction to the magazine? If you are going to be so absolutely closed minded based on this first issue, maybe he is better off without you reading the magazine. For insert favorite deity's name sake, it's a FREE magazine. Read it or don't, it's up to you.

I thought it was a good start and look forward to what comes in the future. And if for some reason it goes downhill from here, then at least I'm not out anything but my time to read it. If you want to change it, why don't you come up with a topic, artist, or something else that you want to see covered and suggest it.

In a fairness, reqistered yesterday without a hitch...all on a dial-up line (so you know I was interested...when you live in the boonies you pay the price sometimes - )

I agree with the post above, read it - don't read it, IMO it is good work and welcome work. Not a big fan of digital, but not anti by any means. The work I saw looked good, and I am more than willing to give someone a chance to show me what they have in mind...I mean one issue, does not make or break it for me. And Good Photography is Good Photography, I may not be interested in how someone did the digital work, but sure do enjoy good work.

I did read the replies, which is why I "subscribed". The next thing I saw was PS trick tips and MF/LF digiback reviews.

Maybe when you get your subscription worked out you will see something different.

We may be a dying art here, but I'm not willing to help drive in the stake!

Uh, "hello" :rolleyes: If you try reading more than the first 3 replies of the thread ... you'll come across:

You should have specified that its a digital-only magazine that focuses on MF and LF gear with scanning backs.
I shoot only film with my Hasselblad.

Actually, MAGNAchrom is neither pro-digital nor pro-film (nor is it anti-digital nor anti-film). We will cover both analog and digital equally well. MAGNAchrom is about medium and large format *CAMERAS* (and the photographers who use them) and as such will cover any topic that is appropriate to that audience. It just so happens that the first issue is primarily -- but not exclusively -- about digital medium and large format topics. Sorry, but we had to start with something!

Anyway, you should be pleased to learn that the second issue is devoted to film. In particular: an amazing large format color negative portfolio from a long-standing APUG member, an in-depth B&W darkroom technique article that I cannot reveal as of yet, and a print shoot out comparing a completely analog print to a completely digital print of the same subject, shot under the same conditions with the same large format camera and lens -- the results will surprise you!

The third issue will feature the stunning B&W film portfolio of Don Kirby and his wife.

And so on. Hopefully, the occasional digital article won't prevent you from enjoying MAGNAchrom. And it is our equal hope that the digital crowd won't be offended by our continued film coverage!

And importantly: we hope you consider contributing your analog articles and analog portfolios to MAGNAchrom for we believe that the best photography today is being done by relatively unknown photographers who are dedicated to their craft -- and we would like nothing more than promote them (and perhaps you)!

Dear J Michael Sullivan, great looking magazine. I had no trouble subscribing and downloading.

Whole-heartedly support anyone who says they are willing to support film photography and then follows up on the promise. I suspect you are not silly enough to be here promoting a publication for digital only users, and I'm looking forward to the next issue. Congratulations, I also think you have a wonderful idea, and echo Lance K's sentiments.

Have you looked into a satellite provider? I gave up waiting for the telephone company to install high speed and got a satellite receiver. It's worked flawlessly. Mine is http://www.xplornet.com, but that particular satellite may not be available where you are.

I'm sure there are more than 50 users of Gandolfi Traditional - they've been making that model for the best part of a century!

If you want something really unusual, try my 4x5" camera: Carbon Infinity. About 60 made (mine is no. 43), most of which have never been used to take a picture!

Skipped quite a fair bit, but got sucked into reading thoroughly about the Chinese 4x5 camera, one I have never heard of.

If you want to "subscribe" on the "come" that future issues will be more film-oriented that is certainly your perogative. I am more skeptical - after all, why "lead" with digital if your intent is analog?

I already get bombarded with digistuff from all kinds of sources as a result of a paid subscription to Pop Photo (cannot wait for that to expire). I really don't need my e-mail inbox stuffed full digi too. And that is what I "gave away" by "subscribing" to this "publication".

Thank goodness for spam blockers!

Yes, we would absolutely love to feature articles and portfolios about film, and darkroom work, and wet print making. If any of you wish to contribute either a portfolio, or article, or how-to then please use the "Contribute" form on the MC header. One word of warning: any portfolios or articles that are not entirely about or by medium or large format equipment will be rejected -- this is after all a publication about BIG CAMERAS and the photographers that use them. No little cameras allowed.

As far as the claim that this is a "digi-mag" -- that is pure nonsense. In fact, I created MAGNAchrom precisely because too much was being written about "little cameras" -- the articles on medium format have pretty much dried up, and only VC does anything at all with large format. Pretty much all other photo publications have either gone over to "pure art" (nothing wrong with that) or "small cameras" (particularly digicams, IMHO plenty wrong with that).

So the irony is if MAGNAchrom is anti anything it is that it is anti-digicam. However, we are not anti-digital as long as it has something to do with medium and/or large format.

Again, the second issue is dedicated to good old film. The analog purists will find plenty to like in the next issue. But in future issues we are likely to "mix it up" with any one issue pretty much covering any topic that is applicable to medium or large format photography. And if it pisses off some digital people that I write about analog or if it pisses off some analog people that I write about digital, I say to them: tough. MAGNAchrom will stay true to its founding by being devoted to *ALL* things medium and large format.

The future is analog. The future is digital. Amen. Let's get out there and shoot! (particularly with BIG cameras!)
