Spring hasn't even half started here in Seattle.

And in only 7-1/2 weeks the days start getting shorter again, and back into the tunnel we go...

I still have 500 sheets of #3 and 750 sheets of #2 but only in 8x10. I got lucky and bought just before the news broke about no more paper. Just need something for my 8x20's. other than PD/Pt which is now almost out of reach in regards to $$$$$. So Oriental Seagul is where I'm at and ansco 130

As Mike, I have some Azo grade 2 and 3 in 8x10 enough to print until the next year, but I haven't paper to print in 8x20, and I have lots of negative ready to print in a Silver-chloride paper, I print some of them with Kentemere Bromide, a very good paper, but I need contact paper...
I hope to have lodima early...

Here in Italy is a spring time, lovely temperature, around 70-72 deg.

Best

Testing is proceeding. We hope to have definitive word soon. We will not compromise on the quality of our paper, which is why this process of getting a new silver chloride paper made is taking as long as it has.

Michael, thanks for the update. I for one feel that it takes as long as it takes! I know the product will be the best.

As their calendar shows, you'll probably be enjoying it for at least another year. They don't show any time in the darkroom until December.

Every Azo printer that I know has moved on to something else. If Lodima becomes a reality, terrific. If not then we'll all continue to print on whatever we've moved onto.

I really don't understand this concept of "being duped" since M&P haven't collected any money for Lodima Fine Art paper. They're assuming 100% of the risk.

One thing you can count on with Michael A. Smith is that if he says he will do something, he will do it.

He is opinionated and East Coast Brusque (but not obnoxious like NewYAWKERS) but his opinions carry the weight of study, thought and effort on his part to figure out what it is he believes. His East Coast style is where he lives and is Michael. Paula Chamlee and her Texas prarie relaxed view of life balances Michael well. They are a good couple, photographers whose excellence only increases the more you view their work and whose teaching, workshops and personal commitment to their work helps a lot of us.

If Michael says it will be done I will bet on him any day of the week.

Michael thinks it MAY be available in 2008....but then we have been waiting for over 3 years now..... I often wonder how many of those orders placed in 2006 are still good???

AFAIK Michael and Paula have not yet collected any money for the Lodima Fine Art Paper. As c6h6o3 says, Michael and Paula are assuming 100% of the risk.

I've just had a reply from "Michael" saying they are expecting some paper soon and should have e-commerce in place for purchasing.

Can you give a link for this reply?

Next time you talk to him ask him when the next Brett Weston book is due out.

Thanks,

Kirk, it was an email reply to me just asking how I go about placing a pre-order for a small amount of paper. How soon is soon I don't know. I'm aware this has been progressing for a long time and soon may well have another meaning in this context... I' m not holding my breathe, but it certainly does sound promising.

We are proceeding. It has only been two years and five months since we asked for pre-orders--not three years.

Someday I will write about the saga that getting this paper has been. It hasn't been easy, folks.

How anyone can think we are "duping" anyone is a mystery to me. As someone wrote, the risk is all ours. And there has been considerable risk. More than any of you can possibly imagine. Someday, the story of that will be told, too.

I cannot give firm dates for anything since I have not received firm dates from the manufacturer of the paper.

If I owned a manufacturing plant I could have given precise dates for the paper release. But I do not own a manufacturing plant and am at the mercy of those who do. And making paper for me is not the top thing on their agenda.

There will be paper. We still have more testing to do, however. I believe that the new Lodima paper will be the finest paper on the market. I could have let some aspects of it go, and said, "Good enough. Let's produce the paper now." But that is just not the way I do things, either with this paper, with my own photographs, or with the books that Paula and I publish.

E-commerce. Paula and I discussed today for the first time getting e-commerce up so that purchases of the paper can be made through our web site. We have not even contacted the fellow who does our web site about this yet. Saying this, and while it was still fresh in my mind, mentioning it in an email to someone, is mostly an expression of my belief that we are making progress and hope that before too long we will actually have a product. The fact that we will soon be paying our web guy to set this up is an expression that we are confident that this will happen.

We are aware that many who were using Azo have gone on to other products. We're hoping, once they see how wonderful the new paper is that they will come back to its replacement.

Great news. I've happily "moved on" but will certainly give this new paper a fair shake when it comes out. I wish you both the best of luck making this happen.

"How anyone can think we are "duping" anyone is a mystery to me." It's a mystery to most of us. This is a public forum though, anyone can write anything for better or worse...

All the best. Shawn
