Explain the wife that there’s a pair of shoes waiting for her at the end, when you sell the Leica.

That’s what’s cool with Leicas. When you sell them, you’re left with enough profit for 2 pairs of shoes

If you're referring to the MP, they've finally updated the covering to a much nicer one, similar to (or maybe the same as) the one used on the M-A.

The Umweltbundesamt doesn't bother vintage car owners thus far! The Trabis were simply thrashed or the owners were sick of them.
I would also like to know the percentage of Leicas still on the road. I suspect it is much higher than the real figure for Trabis.

I believe the petrol is gravity fed to the engine,which sounds pretty dangerous to me.

? It is a 2-stroke engine, but I think the gas tank is not above it. Not sure what you mean by gravity-fed...

Those old east getman hakomat cars were amazing in snow. light, thin tires. front wheel drive and engine.

So naked photography is photography 'by naked photographers, isn't it

For years I mused, ‘gee, it would be nice to own a Leica M’. Finally decided to take the plunge with a M4-2 and a couple of CV lenses.
Discovered that I really preferred SLR viewing in 35mm. My OM-1 was just as nice as the Leica to hold and use. (One essential thing with a OM-1 is, unless you are going to use a shoe mount flash, leaving the detachable hot shoe off really makes the camera more sleek.)
Anyway, the CV’s were brilliant, but my small spread of OM Zuiko’s are quite good enough, and I can focus down to 1:1 if I like. Finally sold off the Leica kit and didn’t feel any regret. Now, if I really feel like using a compact RF then I take along a fully functional 35RC that only ran me $35. With the RC one essential is a 43.5mm to 43mm filter step down ring. The 43mm size is much easier to source and the ring doesn’t block the meter eye.

The OM1 ... is swell? It''s no different from a Pentax Program Plus or a Nikon EM or a Canon .... well, no, all Canon cameras feel like a wedge of cheese. So, it's like a Yashica FX3 or a Konica ... something or other... Whatever - it's an SLR. It's lacking the adventure of a rangefinder. You clumsily focus on some dead-centre subject and clack away with the mirror slapping and the shutter .... shutting ... An SLR takes a different kind of picture - you know - in focus.

I spent a little time in the Eastern part of Germany in the mid-2000s. I was disappointed at how few Trabants I saw. Even in the mid-1990s when I visited Berlin I saw mostly western cars. I suspect they were pulled off the road pretty fast.

Now, I could see a retro "manual Car" movement starting at some point, where young people yearning for a slower, more deliberate, more manual automotive experience start reviving Trabants and other East German cars (if this has not already started). A few people with large barns full of these things could start making a killing some day. Some fictional quotations.

I don't recall exactly which early screw mount Leica I used as a student, but those tiny little viewfinder/rangefinder windows and I really didn't get along all that well together. So even though it was a Leica, I got average Joe photos. Even my street photos were average Joe photos. I ended up with an Olympus OM-1. I still get average Joe photos, but at least they are in focus. The interesting thing is that my OM-1 is now older than the Leica screw mount was when I was using it.

I love that, it's much better than sandpaper ! but I'd always wonder if I was putting too much English in my negatives
