I still remember the smell of Ektachrome 100 Pro. Much better than negative film. Yes, I used to smell every film I bought! :D
I have some Kodachrome in a freezer, 25, 64, and some 120. I gave a roll of the 35mm to a photographer friend, he keeps it in the freezer, every few months takes it out and lets it warm up, smells it, puts it back in the freezer.
The Ektachrome 100+ pro was superb, I made some 8x10 transparencies with it in the late 80s/ early 90s. Stunning isn't the word.

The plant smelled like the films as you walked from building to building.

Sounds like heaven.

I was about to say that! :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that!

Seems like film sniffing is more common than we thought!

Now that’s really crazy. I only let film warm up if I am going to use it!

I'd like to see a 35mm cartridge with the film sticking out of it.
I don't think Kodak Alaris has a booth at CES.
And Eastman Kodak doesn't sell still film to consumers.

But if EK is showing Ektachrome in Super 8, I'm surprised they woudn't show 35mm too. There must be a lot more 35mm shooters than Super 8.

EK doesn't sell 35mm still Kodak film.
Only Kodak Alaris is allowed to do that.

Try smelling some of the Vision 3 stuff. The smell leaks out the back of my cameras. It's potent.

Who will be selling Super 8? EK or Alaris?
EK
All the motion picture business remains with EK.
The only thing EK does for Kodak still film is contract manufacture for Kodak Alaris, who have all the worldwide rights to market still film branded as "Kodak"

Ah, I had not realized it will be 2 different companies selling Ektachrome.

Sniffing film is not the same as sniffing hypo [Matt is going to get angry that I called that again], both are great but habit forming.

Excellent film. Really good stuff for scanning. Once you learn to deal with the remjet it's no big deal to use.

I deal with RemJet... I am not sure I have learnt how to do it, but I’ve been somewhat successful at it!

In fact, I just use the published ECN-2 pre-bath formula with vigorous agitation twice, each followed by multiple washes in warm water. All of the RemJet is removed, most of the time. When it’s not, I just wipe it off with a dry microfiber cloth after drying.

No - just deep, deep, deep disappointment:sad:.
You know that a term is old and out of fashion when it was outmoded and no longer used when I was taking chemistry classes in the 1970s.:whistling:

Well now that I am 71, I have to admit that I am old whether or not I like it. The alternatives are crap.

It has to warm up for the aroma... like a good cheese:wink:
Sadly, sniffing is all it's good for.

So when do you think we can actually buy Ektachrome 35mm film? Would Kodak offer processing as well?

I don't want to wait forever. I do have some time but my time is not unlimited.

If you really want to shoot slides, Fuji Velvia and Provia are readily available. If you want to shoot fresh Ektachrome, it’s not available yet. Kodak says it will be available soon. Some people say it might never be available.

If you want my opinion, I believe it will be available in the first half of this year in 35mm and Super-8. I wish 120 would be available from day one, but it won’t.
