Ok,

Cyan(I-Hydroxy-N-(2-acetamidophenethyl)-2-naphthamide) is CAS 5254-41-1
Still working on trying to figure out the others.

There is an error in the name. It is not (I-Hydroxy.... it is (1-Hydroxy...

But, given the CAS # it looks like a coupler, just perhaps not a Kodachrome one.

I think that somewhere in the OCR process of those patents there have been some errors introduced. Some of those compounds just don't seem to exist when I attempt to research them.

It does seem that that CAS number is still correct though, looks like the site I searched to find it corrected the I to a 1, and in fact gave me 1-Hydroxy-N-(2-acetamidophenethyl)-2-naphthamide

Yes, I thought that "I" was a typo or some other mistake, there is a whole list of quoted couplers and some have the letter I instead of the numeral 1.

Perhaps they were trying to use roman numerals? lol

I don't know if this is what you're looking for- but here are all the CAS numbers I've found on the K-lab documentation.

First is the list of chemicals and Kodak's assigned number, after that is each compound's breakdown.

Kevin Kittle and his K-Lab haven't responded to my last couple of emails. I'm not sure; sometimes its common to go many months without contact and then reconnect. He's moving forward with various options, I think.

I have another document that excludes the redundant chemicals, but not accessible for a couple of days. I hope this helps, this is amazing progress.

That is very useful information!
Thanks for your reply to my email, I will be in touch as progress is made.

I dont see the CAS numbers there for the dye couplers however, they simply say magenta or cyan developer, etc with kodak's catalog number.

We will have to keep digging, but Im in talks with a company in China who is going to get back to me soon regarding the dye couplers, Ive given them the details for the cyan coupler, but magenta and yellow are still needed.

I sent you my excel file- I'm not sure if the one I attached to this thread works...I'll post an update once I get to my other computer, it might be more legible...

2- (p-carboxyphenoxy) -2-pivaloyl-2' , 4'-dichloroacetanilide

Could this be the yellow one?
This also appears to be the Magenta coupler, 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidinone 000092-43-3 but looks like a much more simple molecule than the ones listed in the Kodak Patents.

PE can probably elaborate on this some further.
There are so many chemicals in this list that are probably critical to proper developing, and the right mixing ratios would also need to be obtained.

Would be great if Kodak is secretly reading this thread! lol
Are they even aware that people such as Steve Frizza and Piratelogy have managed to process Kodachrome?
They would probably be very surprised to learn that a K-Lab still exists!
If nothing else, would be nice if some representative would be willing to give some inside information to help those attempting to process Kodachrome.

Isn't 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidinone just Phenidone? It seems to be in various dev agents
Based on my (very small and personal) experience with Kodak reps, I doubt anyone really cares about this. Let's be thankful to PE that has an infinite amount of patience for us!

EDIT: need to read more carefully before replying!

This is the yellow coupler, but in the original a comma is left out as well as the apostrophe after pivaloyl. The one above appears to be correct. Also, the cyan developing agent appears to be CD4 which is news to me. There are other misc. errors as well. However, pyrazolones are magenta couplers and 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidinone is indeed phenidone.

Give me a break somebody and learn organic chemistry! :D

I doubt they particularly care. They did, after all, abandon the Kodachrome patents.

I'm trying hard, strangely that's a hard thing to learn by just Googling

Some of the finest organic chemists in the world worked at EK. It is a pretty high standard for the rest of us to meet!

Falotico, thanks on behalf of all of the EK organic chemists.

If you want to learn some Organic, try a very old text by Fieser and Fieser.

I have just bought the 1950 edition from an online vendor. Can't wait to read about those phenidones.

Thats great, so we have the cyan and yellow couplers confirmed, just magenta now.

Sorry for my confusion, I did not even know what phenidone was lol, but last night I was so tired when posting, that i thought 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidinone was referring to a pyrazolone coupler. Looked very similar to pyrazolone at a glance.

I do not know of abandoned Kodachrome patents. Could you specify them?

("Abandon" would mean not paying the fees or even stating them as free, when they still could be protected.)

The longest term for a patent (utility patents in this case) is for twenty years. Thus, anything patented before Feb 10, 1997 is in the public domain.
