Just a note to say that organic synthesis is not easy. Many of the standard methods involve the use of some very dangerous chemicals. Certainly not something you want to do in your basement. Then too if conditions are not quite right you can end up with tar instead of the desired product. You also need considerably more knowledge than you would get from Chemistry 101. :smile: As a young student William Perkin set out to synthesize quinine one spring break. What he got was something very different.

Maybe a silicon based formula would solve the problem.

I mentioned earlier that Fuji X series has film simulation modes.
 
Digital photographs are based on silicon, I think that's the point.

EK presented the public with products which were marvels in organic chemistry. It would be marvelous is anyone tries to come close to their standards in marketing a product. A Kodachrome-like film made by someone else might still be worthwhile.

Unless there's substantial demand, even an E6 look-alike won't happen. However, if a significant number of people, such as in China, discovered the Kodachrome look and thought they just had to have it, it would happen.
 
We all know full well that a digital photo with a "Kodachrome" filter applied will never be the same.

Let's not give Kodak ideas. They would produce some cheesy, stupid looking, and badly made app with a name like "ezSaveR" which would be an instant flop, drive the company further in the tank, and damage their already oft-mocked image.

That was really my point. Kodachrome would be difficult to simulate using electronic means. It had unique features that would require more IR sensitivity and a very narrow band dye. This would probably require changes in more than two stages of the reproduction process.

Why bother with optics at all? Just draw the image using Fauxto$hop and save the cost of a digisnapper.

Ohh I'm well aware of that. Synthesizing them myself is well beyond my chemistry skills. If I can't get them from a chemistry supplier I'm not going to be able to get them. I've talked to Sigma Aldrich, which is where I've been getting the simpler couplers. They don't stock them but they're checking to see if they can provide them for me.
 
If they bring back Kodachrome 200 in 120 I will buy a few. Not 35mm, my DSLR is just as good.

BUT...I tend to agree with the last post, it is dead and will never come back.

Lets bring back the 126 cartridge while were at it?

I'm gonna keep working on it. I don't care if it's "dead", I'm enjoying shooting it and working on color development... There's enough old stock out there that we could all keep shooting it for quite a while.

Honestly a LOT of people are asking for it so I'm working on how to reasonably accommodate that, and how to make it at least somewhat cost effective for people :smile:

I'm going to run a couple OTHER variants of K14(I've been mostly doing K64 in 35mm to be consistent) and make sure it works on everything else first. I've done a LITTLE bit of K25 that turned out ok. I've got two rolls of K200 that I've not shot yet, and just yesterday someone gave me a roll of PKR64 in 120, so I'll shoot that too. Assuming all comes out consistent we can work out doing rolls for others.

That already exists, there are a number of film simulation routines that can be applied to alter colour and contrast response to mimic the particular look of a film.

Right. I mentioned earlier that my Fuji X-Pro1 does that. However, I leave it on the default setting.
