I wish Sean would have cut her (and Emulsion mag) a little more slack.
Conversely, it would have been smart if Aggie had appreciated the favored treatment she received from APUG and not been a divisive influence.

I did everything I could, not sure what else I can say because it's a private issue. Some events transpired that made it impossible for me to continue a friendship with them. I wish them well, it's great to have a traditional magazine out there..
It's one thing to voice your opinion based on your personal experience but to comment on the experiece of the advertisers is inapropriate. How could you possibly know what that situation is?
Granted, the ball has been dropped with several subscribers but we should stick with what we know. Personally, I know what the advertising situation is and it's a sweetheart deal. If the magazine dropped dead right now (I have no idea either way) the advertisers wouldn't be out anything.
Good luck with all of this. If you or yardkat need copies I can mail some to you as I have several copies of each issue.
Alan.
No apologies necessary, Sean.
I have been on one end of a personality-fed conflict here and to say that I merely appreciated your efforts in that mess would be the understatement of the century.
I have no question, even without any information about that situation, that you did all that was humanly possible - in fact - HEROES work would not surprise me in the least.
You do one thing that is REALLY impressive - with all that must go on in attempts at conflict resolution, it is easy to attack an adversary - to prove a point. As far as I know you have NEVER done that - choosing to protect the "enemy" at the (considerable) cost of leaving some of us to wonder what happened.
That must take a considerable amount of self-discipline ... and is, without question, the noblest of all paths.
I will strive to do that myself.
Photography MUST be an ART. Proof? Photographers are as intense and act the same way as all other artists - don't they?
All well and good Alex, but that still dates from May. This is near the end of September. A lot of water has gone under the dam since then. Are we going to cut John some slack the same way?????

hey alex
the post that ron was looking at was from may,
the thread i started on the large format forum
you need a user name and password to get to it, since it is in their "lounge" ...
it would be great if john got going again, but from what i understand
he has decided not to be involved in the photographic business anymore.
it is a huge-loss for everyone.

ahhhhh. Sorry everyone. I didn't know about that little idiosyncrasy.
Well, I finally got in touch with Aggie and here is the skinny on the publishing problems and unanswered e mails.
Let me start with the publishing and the third issue. While Aggie was here in Mexico, a friend volunteered to do the lay out of the magazine. On the same week this person volunteered his mother passed away. Understandibly the magazine layout took the back seat but Agiie was not notified, the delay was further exarcerbated by Aggie being overseas taking some workshops. So while the issue is complete (all articles are in with photographs) it has not been laid out and sent to the printer, she assured me this will happen next week and the issue will be out.
The unaswered e mails, frankly was lack of attention to details and someone trying to do too many things at one time. Apparently someone did not pay attention to the e mail filters and the Emulsion web site ISP was deleting all the e mails that appeared to be SPAM. She is now in the process of changing ISP and assured me that this will not happen again.
Now, what I would like to have done by the members in this forum is for those who have not received their issues to send me a PM or an e mail giving me your name, issues you are missing and your address so I can compile a list and send it to Aggie. SHe promised she will stay put for the next couple of months and take care of all of these problems.
Yes Howard, Volume two is out in the works. In fact beleive it or not, she and her team are working on laying out issues 5, 6, and 7 as we speak. I had the chance of seeing issue 4 and I think it is going to be a pleasant surprise for many and worth the wait.
Look, what it comes down is this. Some mistakes have been made due to carelesness, lack of management and direction and plain ol biting more than one can chew. Aggie is more than aware of this, many of us who know her are urging her to take care of these problems and she is working on this as we speak.
In her defense, money is tight, she is working with a team which are mainly volunteers and are receiving no pay, that includes the contribuitors as well as those submitting articles. So as it is always the case, you get what you pay for.
In a nut shell, we are hoping she will learn from these mistakes, correct them and move forward to what can be a very positive influence for traditional photography.
Getting old beats dying young, though.![]()
Yes, that's a problem over which I have never lost a moment's sleep!Eddy;
All of them beat dying rich!
That is the worst of them all, not that I'm in danger of that particular fault.
