Today i accidentally got a heads up from one of the major retailers in europe.

I ordered some velvia 50 and asked them to send me rolls expiring in 2020. They told me they only have till 7/2019 ( 35mm ) and that probably it will not be produced again, so what i was asking for was not possible.

Not sure what to make of it.

I have been buying Velvia 50 in 120 format in 1-10 "ProPack" quantities every quarter or so, for years from numerous major American retailers. I haven't received anything dated 2019 since orders I placed in mid- to late-2018; I have been receiving only 2020 dates since then. I think your European retailer's statement that "probably it will not be produced again" is garbage; and I think that statement is either ignorance on their part, or a poor excuse/cover for their inability or unwillingness to continue carrying it.

Who is your reseller? Perhaps they are just trying to sell what's in stock. If demand is low, perhaps they haven't re-ordered recently.

I mentioned that they only commented on 35mm velvia 50.

The rest of my order that included velvia 100/provia 100 in 120, as well velvia 100 in 35mm had no problems with 2020 dates. However they didn't mention if that 2020 stock would be the last as well. They only commented on the part of the order that they couldn't fulfill, with regards to the requested expiry dates.

I also went to fotoimpex and another very well known local lab, nothing past 7/2019 in 35mm velvia 50.

It also sounds strange to me as fuji usually announces discontinuations a couple of months in advance. Time will tell.

Time will tell? Isn't that generally when the final buzzer goes off and it's suddenly the end of the ballgame? Unfortunately, in the habits of both Kodak and Fuji, they don't generally give you any other clock to help you determine how much time you've got left before that final buzzer. When they do announce a discontinuation, the last coating of a given emulsion might have already transpired, and they're announcing the selloff of the last of it. Corporate choices can often be arbitrary and sudden, depending who is in charge. And it's hard enough just to keep track of who's in charge. CEO's seem to get switched out more often than products themselves.

Well - if you had noticed the different pricing of Velvia50 from different dealers/sellers/shops
you may have noticed more increasement from pricing in comparison to other FujiE6!
That is allmost the best first indicator of Fujis next discontinuations!
(BECAUSE FUJI WOULD NOT STATE BEFORE PRODUCTION IS OFF AND ALL FILMS HAVE BEEN SHIPPED TO DEALERS)!
The next indicator is discontinuation of 8x10 .....4x5....…120.......the end is allways 35mm!

If a manuufacturer isn't able to cut sheed films it has to be :

A ) from the costs of cutting = extreme low demand to special format
B ) there is no film (from produced masterrolls wich is done before) avaible for "further run" of cutting sheeds:wink:!!!!!

In case of Velvia50 (8x10 discontinued ~ 2 years ago) I wonder much on " low demand":surprised:?

Or the dealer is not the best? Some also stating the following :
temporarily not avaible / sold out , avaible again in 6weeks!

The massive increasement of pricing from one week to the next noticed from big dealers is the
final clock! (Hart to identify beside Fujis normal massive increasement of pricing some quarters a year...:whistling:)
Because dealers know it can not be ordered again ! And often they wonder about because
customers demand their film! So bigger dealer are checking their stocks and calculate their
"dealers clock" of being sold out!
In most cases dealers increased in addition then - and that is the point Fuji come out with
statement next weeks:laugh:!
So the modern "bank run" = last Fuji Films is beginning :

Bankrun2.JPG.jpg

......caused from low demand:errm:?

with regards

PS : BTW it was quite clear that Kodak might had thoughts on New E6 films some years before
the anouncement to rewife Ektachrome!
Because of the phantastic pricing of last batch Ektachromes on EBay = + 600%!

Ektar can resolve different earthtones hues better than other color neg films. But you need to be more religious to use correction filters than with chrome films if the scene Kelvin temperature is significantly off. I always carry a 2B pink Skylight filter as well as an 81A or KR1.5 amber for overcast conditions.
Well the 2B pink has not that great impact right?

I like that run on the bank picture. Where is Bonnie and Clyde when you need them? Our local camera shop brought in several cases of the last batch of 120 ACROS, but rationed only one 5-pack per customer per visit. So I just kept going back until I had plenty. The price was actually darn good. Somehow one of their employees caught wind of the discontinuation and bought himself 60 @ 20-sheet boxes of 4x5 ACROS at discount - with none left over for actual customers! But I still have some of my old stock of that left in the freezer.

That is indeed the all time best insurance !
I remeber a dealers special pricing for 3packs Sensia100! (for me Sensia is working much like Provia)!
He offered me 10 packs of 3packs = each 30x Sensia 100 (135-36 ) at about 79,- bucks !
That is a price ~ 2,63 per roll:D:smile:!

Now compare :

That is around 16,75 USD, 15,60 USD, 15,10 USD from one of the cheapest sources in Europe:sick:!

What we would have a need of (not why the films here are bad then from oldering)....
but what we would need is a source of Velvia50 with expiration 04/2021!!!!
Because new E6 film has expiration date of full 24month!
That could be (and actually is) an indication of todays production! OK shipping may last some
time - therefore 02/....03/..2021 would also be fine = produced in 2019..but I have serious doubts:sad:!
