Hi All,

I have re-tweaked an application we use to block certain bots, spammers, etc from the server. If anyone has problems today it would be helpful to know. That's all, Thanks! Sean

Site has been very slow since your message about maintenance tonight. I've had page cannot be displayed once and a frozen screen a couple of times. May just be coincidence or is it connected. I note the thread on APUG's success with membership but is the price of increased members, an overloaded server?

I know we always look back with rose coloured spectacles to the good old days but when I first joined I am sure I was not experiencing these problems.

The site wouldn't open for me all morning here - the usual "server not found" error message. Seems fine now.

I've been trying since about 9:45am US East coast time and this is the first I've gotten through. It has been slow lately, but I never know if that's the site or our system here at work. It's usually faster from home.

19:00 hours CET and back on after a down period during the afternoon.
But no bad words from me - I've got plenty of others ways to while away my time

Have not been able to get on all morning, just came back online about 30 minutes ago, just the server not found error is what I was getting.

But all is good, back on now.

Sorry guys... We had a bit of downtime yesterday due to the cpu loading too much and work done to fix it. We then ran into the -oh so typical- technical issues of fixing one thing and then that breaks another. All seems good now.

Sean,

At least a dozen times today I could not connect to APUG, no problem anywhere else.

I couldn't access the site during the morning (US Eastern time) but it came back after 2-3 hours, during the afternoon IIRC. It seems to be fine now.

Sean, thank you for the efforts that you put in towards all this. It is much appreciated.

I still can't acess apug from my home computer (for 3 or 4 days now). Using firefox 1.5 behind a bitdefender firewall and a wireless router, I haven't changed any settings and firefox tells me there's an error with redirecting the adress, maybe cookies or firewall related. I don't get it, I'm allowing cookies and my firewall hasn't changed. Help?

are you running the 'fasterfox' plugin? sometimes that is tagged by our security system as a malicious page stripper and your ip can get bocked. Can you please go here and PM me your ip address: Dead Link Removed

Thanks, Sean

Not sure what it might have been. I have a monitoring service that monitors the site 24x7 it does a check from over 10 global locations every 5 minutes and pages me if any of the locations fail the check. Might have been a local thing in your area.

ok few moments of downtime today due to a strange issue with my database backups. Every few days I take an offsite backup of just the forum database which results in a 140+meg zip file (unzipped it's over 500meg). I have never had trouble doing this but tonight for some reason while the backup is downloading the site becomes non-responsive, backup completes and the site responds again. I'm asking some guys at the vbulletin site if they've ever seen this.

Indeed, I´m running fasterfox plugin. But today I reset my router and was able to get in (finally!). But now I don't know if it was from the reset or if you unblocked my IP adress (btw, my IP adress isn't fixed, it's atributted by my ISP each time I logon. How would this work?).
