Hi Sean,
I've been having trouble getting onto APUG for a couple weeks now from my home in NJ (using Time Warner cable). Neither my desktop nor my wife's laptop was able to hit the site. Whenever we tried, 3 different web browsers popped up a dialog box saying (paraphrased) "too many redirects for this url". Interestingly, my wife and her laptop went to a conference for a few days and she was able to connect to APUG without problems via the hotel's wifi, yet I still couldn't connect from home. Today, I am at our weekend house in upstate NY using Mid-Hudson Cable to connect, and all is fine. I expect I will still find I cannot connect from my NJ home when I go back there tomorrow. Any suggestions for remedying the problem are greatly appreciated.

By the way, when I connected with Opera, I could actually watch the endless looping of the page loading slowly, then when the status bar filled, starting right over again. Accoding to Google, this error typically occurs due to bad code.

Thanks for looking into this.

Hi Victor, when you get to your home connection visit this site: Dead Link Removed and email me your ip address sean@apug.org

Thanks

Indeed, I´m running fasterfox plugin. But today I reset my router and was able to get in (finally!). But now I don't know if it was from the reset or if you unblocked my IP adress (btw, my IP adress isn't fixed, it's atributted by my ISP each time I logon. How would this work?).
you probably had an ip being blocked and the router reset gave you a new ip

Sean,

I've been unable to access APUG for about the past 24 hours. The error message was:

"...the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."

Whatever you did seems to have fixed the problem. I have never experienced any type of connectivity issues in the past.

Hi Allen, about 10 people got blocked due to a software glitch. I have discovered an issue between the gallery and our security software. If there are any issues with a gallery thumbnail many errors are generated. The security software thinks -uh oh a lot of failed attempts on the site within several seconds we must be under attack- so it blocks that ip. I have loosened this up and I also know what to look for now in the future. If the system notification emails inform me an ip was banned and the url links back to the gallery I now know it's bogus, but hopefully this will not happen again. Thanks, Sean

Hi Sean;

Just got back home and everything is working perfectly once more.
Thanks Again and congratulations and continued success with apug...I believe that apug and silver based photography are now inexorably linked and that both will be around for a while yet.
Cheers
Victor

Sean,

Having lots of problems here in Michigan with the site lately. Lots of time-outs and sometimes just not available. Could be my provider, but everything else is moving just fine.

Bill

There were some DNS issues that have appeared to cleared up.

I've been unable to access the site for the last few hours...just got back on.

had issues earlier in the morning, but it is clear things are back up and running

Could not get APUG in the early evening (here) at all, but now it works fine!

I had problems earlier this afternoon about 2pm I wasn't able to log on, but it's OK now.

Had an issue this morning - lost a rather long reply I had just typed to a post - but all is well now.

It was about 3:00pm with me( also U.K.). I got on to the site but then kept getting page cannot be displayed when I wanted to move from a post or look at the gallery. OK so far this evening.

Hi All, I posted a quick note about it here earlier: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

My monitoring service paged me (the service hits apug every 5 minutes from several locations around the word and if there are signs of connectivity issues I get paged). I contacted the host and we began working on it. The server ran into a few issues and they decided to do a full reboot to clear everything up. Reboots usually take about an hour to 1.5hrs with the disk checking that kicks in on the restart. I am investigating the implementation of a failover splash page that can redirect to an information page next time something like this happens.. Thanks

Hello Sean,

Site has been getting pretty slow where I am. Really slow the last few days with ads not feeding all the time. It seems to be waiting for ads to load. As soon as an ad or a red X for broken link shows, the page loads fine.

Bill

Sean. I endorse Bill's and Art's experience today. Very slow when I went on about 5:30pm British Summer Time. Only marginally better now at about 8:00pm

Thanks for the info, I'll notify the host, but it could be due to the AP News article, we're taking a hit from a flood of new traffic.. if it's the article traffic things should get back to normal soon, if not we should be back to normal by tomorrow or late tonight.

Sean

We should be flying along now. There were some large logs causing a slowdown and they have been cleaned up..

We have some fairly logs here in West Virginia, and when they fall across the road it surely does slow things a lot.

Atta boy Sean! Just as handy with the chainsaw as with the keyboard.

Sean I had trouble trying to log on this morning. I keep getting a "server error problem" trying to log on at work. It seems fine now at home.

Going well until 10:17pm GMT then locked for about 5 minutes. Since then it has been going like a bomb, getting faster all the time. Probably running as fast as I have seen it for a long time

it has taken me off and on since 1030am ( it is 1243p now ) to post to this thread.

I have just got on at about 7:20pm GMT without a problem but couldn't get beyond the APUG initial screen today at about 4:00pm GMT despite trying for about 10 mins. It may have been that the site had a planned outage. In the event that the site is down, is there any way in which a notice to this effect could be triggered by an attempt to get in. That way subscribers know there is no point in trying for however long is required to get the site running again.
