Hello APUG members!
I have lurked around APUG for about six months now, and thought now might be a good time to introduce myself. I live in Denver, CO and photography is a wonderfully challenging hobby for me. Oh, and an expensive hobby, too! It is the perfect outlet for me to release all my work-related stress from my "normal" job. I just love picking up my proofs at the lab after a long days work.
I have loved photographs ever since I can remember. My father always loved them too. Growing up we had Ansel Adams prints (reproductions, not real ones!) hanging on our walls. They were beautiful black and white images. Actually, it was my father who bought me my first *real* 35 mm camera 8.5 years ago when my daughter was born. He thought I ought to have it to chronicle her life. And so I have. But it wasn't until a little over a year ago, when I met Cheryl Jacobs for a photo shoot of my children, that I really fell in love. She's been wonderful at helping me to understand what that camera can really do. You see, I always thought you needed a big fancy camera to take great pictures. I've spent the last year learning the ins and outs of my camera, added to my collection by a few, gotten my feet wet with MF with a used Hassey 500cm, and even played a bit with a Holga. I still have so much to learn.
I look forward to diving into APUG and learning from everyone. I love the breadth of this site. Let me apologize in advance for any basic newbie questions that I may ask.

Welcome Patrina. There are a number of us Apuggers here in Denver. I also found APUG thanks to Cheryl, and she is teaching at our school next month. Glad to see you here. I am hoping to figure out a way to organize a Denver area get together, would love to see you there if we are able to make it happen.

Paul.

Welcome Patrina from Hawaii!! What part of Denver do you live in? I grew up in Colorado (Colo Sprgs), but left about 12 years ago - it was getting just too crowded for me. And where do I wind up, but Honolulu :D - from the frying pan into the fire.

Welcome from just a little bit west on I-80 (I may be the only Apugger in Utah County). You're in good company with Cheryl and the rest of the Colorado Apug crowd

Hi Patrina, glad you are enjoying your photography. It's a source of constant delight and amazement to me. Learn something new every day. Enjoy APUG, it's a blast.

Sydney, Australia. (Nowhere near Denver, although I'd like to visit there someday)

Patrina, nice to see you over here! I'm so glad you decided to join. A very warm welcome and I'm sure you'll learn learn a lot through APUG - an incredible collection of analogue knowledge
Kind regards from Perth, West Australia

Welcome Patrina, Cheryl is clearly one of the best so you are in good company. I don't know her personally but her work speaks volumes. APUG is a wonderful community that I am sure you will enjoy. Looking forward to seeing some of your images.

Welcome to APUG, Patrina!

This is a great place for beginners (I'm one). I have learned so much from this site, it's not even funny! And don't worry about asking questions. Everyone here is always happy to provide info to all of us neophytes! :D

Welcome Patrina! I know just what you mean re: photography being an outlet from your "real job!" Like you said, it is a relatively expensive hobby, so I, too, cannot quit my day job just yet!

I'm sure you will, like I have, find that other Apuggers are more than willing to lend a hand to help you out. The generosity of the people here is really quite astounding.

Have fun!

Thank you for such a warm welcome. I look forward to sharing some work soon, and digging thru the archives! :D

Hi Paul! I am familiar with your place, Denver Darkroom. I've heard great things about it! I took Cheryl's workshop last September, and I've got a friend who's registered for the September session. Cheryl's a great teacher, I'd love to take her workshop again. I feel like I've grown a lot since last year when I took it. I'm stepping away from child photography for awhile though, my own children are tiring of me stalking them with my camera! On to other things!
Would love a Denver get together.

Welcome to Apug and have fun shooting all the other beautiful sights of Colorado (your kids will go from hating your stalking to hating being your pack-mules on trips into the dunes or into the canyons  )

Welcome Petrina, all the way from England. The thing about taking lots of shots of your kids is that you can embarrass the hell out of them when they grow up " and here's a shot of our ******* rolling round naked on a sheepskin rug!" Apug is a great forum I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I too admire Cheryls work, and hope to attend her workshop in London next March.

Another welcome from across the pond, Petrina.

Cheryl is "good people" and I'm sure you'll be the better for knowing her. All the best with your voyage of discovery. I hope you get as much enjoyment from it as most of us do!

Best regards,

Frank

Hi Patrina,
Always great to see a new member joining, a fellow 500cm user even better.
Enjoy APUG
