Nikon 28-80G - $20 via ebay. And some have recently scored one for less by getting it attached to a 'less desirable' camera.
Hoya UV HMC filter to protect it? $25.
You see where I am going with this...
.
At the very opposite end of the scale from this is the Ricoh 500G I took along. What a pain in the neck to use.
I've always been curious about the 500G. Basically because it looks so nice! What's the skinny?
It's like a pretty girl with an irritating voice. The reviews all praise it, but center around the 40mm f2.8 lens. What no one says is how difficult it is to focus the thing with that tiny diamond patch. Maybe the patch in mine is faded which would make it more difficult. I don't know. The focus ring on the lens is small too so you move it with the tip of your finger. Plus the camera does not have a robust feel - from the weight, to the shutter release, to the winder. The quality of the pictures it takes could make up for all that, though. I'll know when I get them developed.
Due to how tough the 500G is to focus, I may end up liking my Ricoh 35ZF more since it's just zone focus and has the same lens.
Maybe the next thread should be to sing the praises of the 28-80G? It really is a fantastic general use lens, for very little money.
N80 gets a checkup...
My N80 #2 is the first camera to get it's meter checked with my new shutter/exposure tester. I'm still working on the shutter tester sensors, but the calibrated light source is up and running. The light source is set to EV13. Assuming the Nikon has a calibration constant of K= 14.03, the Nikon reads 1/125 at F8 which is correct!

Does that device work with other cameras?
Do they realize the guy they're after is taking pictures of them?
shaddup man, I'm under cover.
shaddup man, I'm under cover.
This would be an even better joke if you'd been using large format.
I see a VW bus in some of your photos. If that's your get-away vehicle, we're gonna have to talk.
Of course! We may be Philistines but we are not Neanderthals.
