The simple answer - too many - but I still need to feed the addiction though I guess one day my wife will say - "whoa" and I shall have to rationalise. For now though she is very supportive and like me cannot pass a charity or junk shop without saying "shall we...?"

How many? I lost count years ago. But I know that I have far more than I need, and far fewer than I want.

My answer is enough, even though I still want two more Nikon F's, a second F3HP and a Leica M6 or Ziess Ikon M. I thought I was bad but my brother has it way worse......

Well from everyones answers, it is quite clear that I haven't got enough so I'm off to the Bay to buy some more...

Pmail me. I think you take risks with EBay. I'll sell you genuine certified junk (3% to APUG). No chance of you mistakenly getting something worthwhile like you would on EBay.

How about a 127 camera made of remelted American fighter plane parts from Italy? Single meniscus lens, one speed shutter, one aperture f11 I think. Think of the possibilities....

Tim, why didn't you offer him Jim Jones' special Kool-Aid too?

Well after the brown truck showed up this morning, one more. A Chrome ETRS body. Such a beauty!! Now I'll go nuts trying to find a matching back, haha. The only fault I could find was some leathette lifting. Anyone know a good glue? Thanks

You guys come up with some embarrassing questions.

In the interest of accuracy, I will say; "too many."

In comparison, the woman in my life admitted to me once that she had conducted an inventory and had 1,185 little green creatures that lived in and around the house. Life can be interesting when both of the people in the house have obsessive compulsive packrat tendencies.

Enjoy;

I want to plead the fifth amendment, in case my wife reads this forum, and I'm not even American.

Sitting to my left:

Three.

Nikon F3P
Black Nikon F FTn
and, chrome Nikkormat FTn (soon to become a Nikomat FTn)

At the repair shop:

Two.

Black Nikon F2A that received a replacement top cover and is awaiting payment for services rendered
Black Nikomat FT2 that will soon be mine again - will visit the shop soon thereafter for some repair work

Enroute:

Two.

Nikon FM2n in black
and another chrome Nikkormat FTn.

In my past:

Let's see here. This is going to be a LONGGGG post...

Including the bodies listed above, I think I've owned 77 or so Nikons. Plus, two 'taxes, and a couple 'blad 500c's.

Pentax H3v (9th birthday present in 1984 from my aunt - died in '87)
Nikomat FTn chrome (received in 1987 from my father, who decided to take a break from photography - well used and beat pretty badly, but still worked fine - he was the original owner - sold in '97)
Nikkormat FT2 chrome (15th b'day present - became a Nikomat a year later when I swapped nameplates betwixt the bodies - sold in '97)
Nikon FM2n chrome (first FM2n, purchased in '91 - had until 4 years ago - wish I still had it)
Nikon FM black (beater that I superglued the leatherette onto and damaged the lens release button - parts in late '97, bought a few weeks earlier)
Nikon FM black (replacement for above - needed shutter overhaul since it capped at most speeds - sold with FM2n)
Nikomat FTn chrome ($40 dead body - overhauled twice, finally working properly 6 years after purchase in '98 - sold in 2005)
Nikkormat FTn chrome ($56 functional late body - purchased in '04, sold in early '05)
Nikon F3P (first F3 I owned - brassier than heck, but worked fine - received in trade for FM and FM2n - sold stupidly in '06)
Nikon F2 Photomic black (bought for $75 - had battery box issues, but otherwise worked just fine - was able to get the meter functioning properly by smacking baseplate - bought January '05, sold Jan '06 as F2A)
Nikomat FT2 black (needed work, but meter worked fine, so was worth fixing up. Traded with some other items for 105f4 Micro-Nikkor AI in October 2005)
Nikon FM2 black (another eBait find - needed work, had overhauled, used for a while, then traded for another FM2n)
Nikon FM2n black (VERY brassy, twitchy meter, picked up @ same time as black early FM2 - Meter died in summer '05, resurrected January '06 with parts from another FM2n)
Nikkormat FT3 chrome (didn't last very long - didn't care for the looks of the FT3)
Nikon F3HP (second F3, mid 17xxxxx serial range - bad lock on exposure compensation dial - returned in September '05)
Nikon F2A black, two (received two F2A's with a 20f2.8 AIS, 200f4 AIS, 28f2.8 AIS, MD-2/MB-1 for $400 - traded the beater F2A as an F2 Photomic for an F4 body in October '05, sold other body in September of last year)
Nikon FM2n black, late (Nice body, purchased in September '05. Traded for F3 eyelevel at end of December '05)
Nikon F4 - needed too much work to fix up. $35 purchase. Parts body @ repair shop - September '05
Nikon F4 - Received in trade for F2 Photomic - needed new DP-20 finder. Traded with first F2 for a chrome FM2n in January '06
Nikon FM chrome - project body for $15. Overhauled early '06 for $130. Traded back to original store for a 55f2.8 Micro AIS in September '06
Nikkormat FT2 chrome - eBait special, overhauled and became Nikomat FT2, then sold in early '06 - sometimes pops up on eBait at times...
Pentax H3v - not sure why I got this - 10/05
Nikomat FTn black - parts camera 2005
Nikomat FT2 chrome - another eBait special, lots of corrosion, due to Hawaii life - overhauled, then traded in '06
Nikon FM2n chrome - parts camera for brass/black FM2n 1/06
Nikon F3 eyelevel beater - became F3HP with MF-14, then sold back to camera shop in Feb '06, along with second chrome FT2.
Nikon F beater chrome - originally no prism, became chrome w/black eyelevel prism - 1/06-2/06
Nikon FM2n chrome - well-used functional body. Meter overhaul and hot shoe replacement. Continued to be used until 9/06.
Nikon FM2n black - Nice, but ADR mirror missing, so returned a week later - 2/06
Hasselblad 500c - 4/06-5/06 - traded in on Nikon F4
Nikon F4 - fairly early body, originally F4s, became F4 when MB-20 was sourced. Purchased 5/06. Traded for black FM2n in 9/06
Nikon F3HP - replaced F3P a month after F3P was sold. Short circuit causing battery drain. Returned 9/06. Purchased 6/06.
Nikon FM2n black - nice, but twitchy meter - returned for cash 9/06
Nikon F3HP - replaced F3HP with battery drain. Purchased 9/06, traded back, 8/07 on F4s body
Nikon FM2n black - beater, nice meter, replaced chrome FM2n, sold back 2/07
Nikon FE2 black - purchased @ same time as FM2n black beater, also a beater, sold back 3/07
Nikomat FTn chrome - parts camera (3/07)
Nikkormat FT2 black - fixer, became Nikomat FT2, overhauled meter and new top cover - 3/07-3/08
Nikomat FT chrome - jammed, but easily fixed in 5 minutes, meter jumpy. 3/07-5/07
Nikkormat FTn chrome - jammed, parts camera 3/07 - came with FT.
Nikkormat FT chrome - functional, parts camera, donated 50f2 Nikkor-H to Nikomat FT 3/07

Three, currently, unless you want to count the two Meade ETX telescopes I use as astrophotography platforms.

Two Konica AutoreflexTC camera bodies.

One Minolta DiMAGE S414 digital camera.

Right now I've got a Shen-Hao 4x5 and a Canon EOS 30. I've got a handful of Box Brownies (incl. an original Green model) but they haven't ever seen use, yet.

Though there's a Mamiya 645 Pro somewhere at keh with my name on it :D and I'll probably sell the Canon once it arrives to pay for another lens.

I'm so pleased someone started this thread, it makes me a lot better about how many cameras I own, maybe I'm not the only eccentric in the world .

The interesting thing is that I have never sold a camera that I bought to use. I have sold a few thrift shop cameras and lenses, but that's it.

Hello,

Too many cameras, but what's a guy to do? I recently sold a lot of equipment. I only kept cameras I use and use regularly. Here's what I have left in film:

Leica: M3, M5
Minolta: CLE, 35 Model II, Super A, XGse
Nikon: F3HP, FE

Probably going to buy a Minolta Maxxum 9 and 7 to use with the wonderful lenses I've discovered since buying a Sony Alpha 7. Just as nice as the Rokkor lenses. I'd always avoided Minolta AF and now I'm not sure why.

On reflection, the most amazing thing about all my cameras and lenses, all of which I bought second hand over the last thirty years is that I have never needed to get them repaired, and I use them regularly, especially in recent years since I retired, and I don't believe in nursing equipment, I'm not a collector, and I don't believe that cameras and lenses are like cars and need regular servicing, more on the principal of "leave well alone" and it has worked for me.

Now I have 5 units, I've sold and bought and sold again many cameras and lenses, but a strong tendency has emerged over the last years, mechanize, I am fully mechanical now.:D

After owning F5's, F100's, F80's etc, my present setup is composed by, 1 Hasselblad 500 C/M + 3 optics and very interesting system backing it up, 1 Nikon F2+ a 50mm optic only, 1 Contax IIa+ a 50mm optic, 1 Rolleiflex 3.5A and one vintage folder Zeiss Ercona.

After a brief battery and AF adventure, the tendency is too mechanize more and more, complete freedom and peace of mind.:D

This is still an interesting question!

So far, I think Aggie's response in Message 2 was the most enjoyable.

By the way, while I do have some Minoltas, I am not quite in the league with John_Nikon_F3HP. However, I have learned that I am a beneficiary of John's efforts to provide Nikon cameras to the world. It turns out that I have the Nikon F Blackbody with Chrome Penta Prism mentioned almost at the bottom of John's list.

Enjoy;

Ralph Javins

When they ask you how many megapixels you have in your camera, just tell them; "I use activated silver-bromide crystals for my storage medium."
