Nothing is off the table as far as we're concerned. Perforated, finished and branded films will have priority for quite some time because they typically go directly to individual customers. Unperforated rolls are typically assumed to be B2B transactions - something we cannot do until we are meeting B2C demand.

In fact, because "regular" 8mm film is infinitely easier to produce, it's likely that we will produce a small batch to release alongside Super 8 - just to see how it goes. We have already had a conversation about this as a future prospect because there are so many working 8mm cameras out there that are currently performing decorative duties on fireplace mantles and side tables...

To get to the point where direct demand is met and we can open ourselves up for other types of sales - we will first need to expand our capacity at least 80x what it is today. This is all doable with the equipment we have in storage, adding some staff, running the precision coater 24-7 (and eventually, commissioning some new equipment). But the timeline to get to this point is measured in years, not months.

Sounds great. Do you have the capability to make Regular 8 Spools, (or at least the tooling to send to a plastics plant)?
Is the expectation that the P30 can be reversal processed in Regular 8? And does this mean that 16mm is also on the near term agenda? (so many questions, Someone of facebook was wondering this week when you guys will have P30 in 400FT BH1866 rolls for Movie making)

Film Ferrania, everybody knows that with 135 portions money is made by overpricing. With motion-picture portions money is made by the mass. So open the tap, make them perforators work, send big dummy boxes out to photo dealers worldwide (I know that costs) but above all spread the news that your black and white film rich of silver will be available as 16mm and or Double Eight then and then. Of course offer P30 als bulk material, think of Eyemo and other 35mm movie cameras. Offer it like the original Pancromatico of 30 degrees Scheiner (hence the name) as motion-picture negative in lengths up to 1,000 ft. Ferrania P30 is back!

Double Eight was the most popular and widespread film format of all. Of no other format there is more good equipment around, dirt cheap today, than of Double Eight. Fomapan Reversal 100 costs $14.99 in the U. S. today. P30 for $8 or $9 (sans processing) should be on the shelves, under the glass of sales counters, at kiosks, gas stations, shopping malls, bookstores, drugstores, whatnot. Flood the market, grasp that market for a later color stock! One more time, if I had the choice among a new Ektachrome and Ferraniachrome, I bought Ferrania.

Just received my order of a few rolls of Film Ferrania's 35mm P30 film. Look forward to trying it out in some D76 in the near future.

I was surprised with just how "Alpha" this film is. Right down to the repurposed film cassettes...

Dave did mention that a few posts back, they are apparently old stock, unused cassettes that were left over after some private label runs done by the old Ferrannia Factory. throw the numbers under the bar code into the DX decoder site and you will probably find a ferrannia Colour Negative film comes up. https://dexter.pcode.nl/

P30 135 format is looking really good in reversal processing. We are trying to get some info together from a lab in Milan who did some tests and as soon as we have spare rolls, we're going to work with dr5.com for more testing.

It's going to be a long time before we're making 400ft rolls that are ready for proper commercial productions... I'll see if I can find the FB message.

Please say you'll do 120 and large format sizes. I realise you'll need a different base for them but I would love some. I don't shoot 135 nowdays but I love the way P30 looks.
Also, please think about a real infrared film (not an extended red one, we currently have one from Ilford and somewhere between two and four from maco, depending on who you ask).

This isn't really off-topic. Film Ferrania's original plan called for them to do 120 as well as Super-8 and 35mm. The "Little Boy" coater, IIRC, is capable of coating up to 8x10, maybe a little bigger. I'm sure if A) they have the capacity, and B) there's enough demand for it to be profitable, they'd be open to doing an occasional run of real IR film. But those two things are big things!

Any chance we are going to get our E6 film this summer? I lost track of the latest projected delivery date. My last recollection was mid summer but clearly that ain't happening.

What's the latest?

Hey, it is real! A small 6X4X4 Staples brand cardboard Box arrived on my door step today with 5 rolls of P30!

Opening one roll, it was in a ferrania film can, and with a paper label. Peeling the label revealed a cassette that was originaly intended for Dia Nippon Printing Centuria 200 - 24 exposure. The DX bar code has 013983, which dexter shows as Ferrannia FG Plus 200 (also sold as Kroger 200)

My darkroom is quite backed up, so it might be a few weeks before I can play with the film. the actual leader shows the film being on a grey base, and the emulsion is a bit lighter in colour than the films like HP5 that I normally use. My colour vision is not great but it reminded me of the Old EFKE film in overall colour, which of course was also designed in the 1950 era.

Glad to see the first tangible result of all this discussion.

I'd guess it's been pushed a bit and sits on an indefinite timeline. At least P30 is helping figure out many other production aspects and helps polish the line for the more complex E6.

I think that if Ferrania had any news to announce on E6 it would have chosen it's yesterday's post to do so. It may be adopting a "least said soonest mended" approach so that when we hear anything it will be deliverable

We are going to make P30 in 120 and 4x5 soon. 8x10 later. But there are still a number of issues with our production scale to solve. We are using 135 production to work out the solutions as we move forward.

Yes they announced their new announcements policy, which is not to give any timetables.

If Ferrania participates in this forum and give timetables, they are flogged if they are not met.
If they don't give timetables and prefer to announce products when they are on the table, they are flogged because they don't give dates.

In the circumstances in which Ferrania operates, they can either give uncertain timetables, or a certain silence.
In the past Ferrania was criticized for giving uncertain timetables, so they now chose the certainty, and irreprehensibility, of silence.

This is correct. We don't know. It's the very harsh reality. But we have a plan.

What became clear the minute we started production of P30 was that we are still far too small to feasibly make color reversal. It took us 4 months just to deliver the P30 pre-orders and, in fact, we only hit a decent stride in July. (We'll finish in about two weeks, for those still waiting).

Scaling up is 100% necessary at this point - and our sole focus. We are using P30 production to address this head-on, and on a daily basis.

Once we get to the appropriate scale, we can put P30 production on "cruise control" (a grand oversimplification, but basically accurate), and our team can then put their full attention on finishing the work on color that has already begun with Ivano and his assistant - and also some work done back in 2015.

That's the general plan.

But I'm sure we've all heard the famous quote: "No battle plan survives contact with the enemy. When your plan meets the real world, the real world wins."

And so we try to remain pretty fluid and adaptable.

does this mean the production line changes to make the coater bigger ( larger drying tunnel)have to proceed before the E-6 Can come out?

I've emailed Ferrania on the following point, but without a reply.

As a Kickstarter contributor, I decided to hold-out for the E-6 film rewards when the option to exchange these for P-30 was available. As it seems to be becoming increasingly evident that quality E-6 film has now become pie-in-the-sky for sometime/never, is it still possible to exchange the rewards for an equivalent of P-30 ?
