Hello everybody o/

I've come across APUG several times during the past months; some how I always end up here when I search info on dev process, chemicals or dev or photography gear. Today I decided it's time to sign in so here I am.

Something about me... I'm a 26 yo gal from northern Finland. In addition to my full-time job in sports technology company, I also work as freelance (web) designer. I've been taking analog photographs since last fall (2009) and I've developed my own film (b&w and color) since December. I've always been interested in cameras and photography but I didn't have a proper camera (Nikon D60) until in 2008. In 2009 I upgraded to D80 and then I got interested in analog stuff. I had already collected quite many manual lenses for both Nikon F and M42 mount so it was easy to jump into the analog world. I'd like to get to the point where I don't need my digital camera anymore.

At the moment I have six analog cameras and a bunch of lenses and other gear. I shoot both 135 and 120 formats. I've listed my analog camera bodies in the signature. Nikon F100 is my newest purchase and I think it'll become my main camera along with Mamiya M645. I'm in love with them both.

So far I've used Rodinal for b&w developing and Tetenal chemicals for color developing. Next I will test D-76 for b&w and Fuji (or Kodak) for color. I'm developing by hand with a small tank (I have both AP and Paterson tank). I'm still in the process of finding my favourite films, I've shot too little to really know.

I'm a tech geek by heart so I tend to list the gear and chemicals in the photo descriptions.

Hi Tom,
I like Nikon's ergonomics, all of my Nikon cameras are so easy and comfortable to use. Mamiya M645 is a bit bulky but when compared to Kiev 60, it's much more fun to use. It's a bit difficult to compare Nikon to Mamiya as they are for different film format. I think they are equal when it comes to (build and image) quality.

Have you printed any of your negatives in a darkroom yet?

No, I don't have the required equipment. I'm scanning the films.

Welcome perminna, I like your clothespeg series:smile:
regards
craig

Thanks. I didn't realize I have a clothespin series but I guess three makes a serie.

Hi Perminna! I'll be in Helsinki in 12 days - if I see anyone waving a Mamiya about... well, I'll wave!!

Marc!!

Hi Marc, I'm 700km away from Helsinki but I'm sure there are plenty of Mamiya users to wave to in the capital city area. Although film photography is a rarity in Finland these days. If you live outside the capital city area, it's almost impossible to get your films developed by a professional lab. They don't usually even offer crappy 1-hour service any more.

Terve! I'll write in English now for the forums sake even though I'm also a fellow Finn . Where in Finland do you live? I'm in Pietarsaari so I'm not so far up north.
Congratulations on finding analogue photography again, you should really try doing some prints in a darkroom if you have access to a enlarger because it's really fun when you get into it.
I bought a Nikon FE this autumn and a Rolleiflex 3.5E a couple of months ago and I haven't looked at my sisters D80 since , and now I'm considering buying/building a large format camera. I've only done B&W but maybe I should try color also.

Welcome Home Perminna,

You are on the Phast Photographic track !
I started taking pictures in 1975, and I've never developed color film.
But, I always used Ektachrome, And KODACHROME !

***** Observe A Moment Of Silence *****

The Kodachrome wasn't a Do It Yourself option , and developing Ektachrome wasn't compatible with my meager allowance. Hopefully in a few more months you will be ready for the large format 4X5 experience.
Please try to infect some of your friends, and family with your enthusiasm for analog photography !

From : Ron, Long Island, NY !

Jeff, Chris, Darko, Ron, thanks!

klarifon, I live in Oulu. I'm sure there would be a place to do prints but at the moment I want to really learn how my cameras work and how different films and chemicals mix together.
