Dealers all got the same pdf. Here's part of the pdf dealing with black and white stuff that is being deleted:

[Moderator's note: Thanks for trying to cut and paste from the PDF, Jeff, but the formatting is causing more confusion. Everyone, please look at the original PDF, which dr5 has been nice enough to host on his website, and read the column headings carefully. The left column is the product or size to be discontinued and the right column is the suggested replacement--

Anti-fog #2 is just benzotriazole 1%, isn't it? A 5 gallon jug could last a while.

Wait...is Sistan a surfactant? And you can use it on film?

I use Sistan for archivability when I don't want to change the tone of a print with selenium or other toners.

Sistan contains a surfactant as well as a preservative, and you most certainly can use it on film.

Hey...

I would bet Mr. Wood has a deeper insight in this area then the common user.

He is not spreading rumors.

If there is something on his list you mite just want or need you better GET IT NOW !!

Remember... The $$ speaks more then anything else with the vendors of photographic supplies.

BUY or DIE !!

Thanks

Scott

How to use Sistan as Photo-Flo? I use Photo-Flo 1+1,000.

It's not so much "using Sistan as Photo-Flo" as "if you use Sistan as a preservative, which already has a surfactant, you don't need Photo-Flo." 25 ml concentrate and add water to make 1 l.

There are some uses for Photo-Flo other than as a final rinse where Sistan would not be a substitute, for instance adding it to film developer for tray development or using it in an emulsion to promote even coating.

Still a bit shocked about Microdol-X, especially since thanks to Photo Engineer figured out what the X does. Going to have to start stocking that one up, yeah, I know Perceptol and D-25/23 will get close, but something about the X...

According to tech pub J1, it's 6-Nitrobenzimidazole Nitrate and anti-fog #1 was Benzotriazole.

Thanks for clearing that up, as it were.

Did anyone else notice the 5L X-Tol on the list? Am I seeing things? It seems that this would be one of their most popular items. In the experimental class I am working with right now, we have already gone through three batches of 5L X-Tol, two batches of 1 gal D-19, and a gallon of D-76, and we are only halfway through the term. Seems like lots of folks on APUG swear by X-Tol as well. Personally, it is not my cup of tea, but it seems like an odd choice to be discontinued.

Yes, more info in the OP would seem to be an obvious inclusion, rather than an attitude several pages into the thread. Not everyone knows everything about everyone who posts here.

I see the Xtol 5 liter package going. Oh my... Why the h'ck did I start using it as a standard? Dang, dang, dang... I am not going to do a liter at a time everytime I need to develop a few rolls, no way.

2F, Jerevan, they will discontinue the 50l bags of Xtol and propose the 5l bags as a replacement. The right column lists the proposed replacements.

KODAK PROFESSIONAL XTOL Developer / Bag of powder to make 50 L 8184517
KODAK PROFESSIONAL XTOL Developer / Bag of powder to make 5 L 8751752

...is the way I read it in Jeff Searust's post. Is this not correct? In the same list, other items for which a replacement is suggested are clearly indicated.

Better have a look at the pdf, I assume the copy - paste didn't make things clear in Jeff's post. There are lines with "No Suggested Replacement" in Jeff's post and those listing Xtol don't have it.

Thank you. So, Jeff's post suffers from who knows how many similar errors. I also see that all the items listed in the OP are the items for which there is no suggested replacement.

I've deleted Jeff Searust's cut and paste, which seems to be causing more confusion than it resolves due to the formatting, but thanks for trying, Jeff.

Once again, if you want to see what's been discontinued, please download the PDF that dr5 has been nice enough to post on their website and read the column headings carefully. The left column is the item to be discontinued and the right is the suggested replacement--

I might stock up on Microdol-X, never having used it, itd be a shame for it to disappear from history.

Now that I think about this, PE, if you're following this, would you want to speculate about whether this was the secret ingredient in Microdol-X, hence the discontinuation of both at the same time?
