I forget who mentioned it first....but someone suggested that a thin negative image forms first, then everything else gets toned around it...so the image looks positive...what happened last night seems to fit that theory

I want to see if I can bleach/fix any developed silver out of a processed image and see if I can notice a change

Is there a brand name for sodium carbonate in the laundry section of WalMart or something? I'm 99% sure that there are some laundry soaps that are sodium carbonate, but not sure which ones, and I really want to try this shallot soup! It sounds too easy to be true.
Cheers,
Richard

arm & hammer washing soda is sodium carbonate

I just got some at Walmart...my usual grocery store doesn't seem to sell it anymore

Walmart also has pool chemicals...one of which seems to have sodium carbonate in it -- I haven't tried it yet

Thanks for the info! It'll probably be a couple of weeks before I will try out but I will give it a go. I do have some direct positive paper from Ilford so it might be worth the experiment. Thanks!

Sooo...did you give it a try yet?

would be interesting to see how direct positive paper would react

I found the Arm & Hammer stuff today at WalMart. I have a red onion and some green &black chai tea, so I'm going to give this a shot. I'm just waiting for my film to come.

starting to think experimenting with paper might be very interesting....especially the ability to watch the image develop

No not yet. This week my mind wasn't with photography. Some bastard stole my car and been busy with getting it back from belgium where it was found, insurances etc. Maybe I will give it a go next week or so.

This is someone from the future trying to communicate with J Nanian aka Removed Account 14.

If you do a Google Search for John you will most likely find what you seek .
If you contact him, say hi from me.

I had read a long time ago that shallots and celery have similar components to either Grey or red curing salts.
Any one ever use curing salts in a developer?

 a few months ago I noticed that I have a bottle of chopped shallots in IPA out in my garage. I made it when this thread was first posted, so I guess it is "well ripened" or something. I don't remember if I ever tried it. I'm sure I intended to try it with paper. Shallots also contain selenium, but it's micrograms per hundred grams of shallot...

Not monitoring - just read your post and thought I could help!
And yes, please pass the hello along.
