The runway allows me to dance to Micheal Jackson while I am printing.

My new lair

Ok, here's a darkroom portrait of my almost-finished, work-in-progress:

(note, I am waiting on the mounting brackets for my water filters, the door, window and baseboards haven't been trimmed yet and I haven't laid a floor down)

Here's a legend for the numbered features...
  1. Cooler-based water chiller
  2. Hooded exhaust fan ducted to external 180 CFM fan
  3. 193 CFM room-to-room fan with external, home-made, dust filtered light baffle
  4. Removable window cover
  5. Removable home built film drying cabinet with Prinz drying unit

You can view this as a Quicktime VR Animation at:

http://smallproblem.com/darkroom/vr.mov

Not visible is the Thomas Super Safelight

(apologies for the "Pixtra" watermarks, I'm still waiting on a replacement registration code for the software)

Here's mine. It was shot with a point-and-shoot digital, borrowed from my son.

Aha, reub, I see you also have that essential darkroom liquid in the last bottle on the right. :wink: Just be careful that you don't accidentally reach for the bleach in the dark! :wink:

Sorry to disappoint you but look at (there was a url link here which no longer exists). It's print fixer, not root beer.

Here's My Magic Kingdom...

I decided to add a page to my website showing my darkroom. But after looking at the photo's, I realized that one or two pictures can't even begin to cover all of the ideas, tips, and hints that have sprouted up over the years.

So my plan is to have a (sorta) regular feature page on my site that will focus on some item in detail, what it does, and how to make one yourself.

For a glimps of my subterranean warren visit

Reinhold, that's just beyond cool. What a great space. Where did you get those fabulous sinks?

I realized that one or two pictures can't even begin to cover all of the ideas, tips, and hints that have sprouted up over the years. ...

Is that a cheese slicer on the enlarger timer? I must have missed that "tip". :tongue:

Colin;

Thanks, the sinks are made from 1/2 inch exterior grade plywood and coated with the epoxy resin used for making fiberglass boats. The sinks were made "in place" and the resin was simply painted on after final assembly. I didn't use any glass fiber (I learned long ago that fiberglass mat is sooper messy, uses way too much $$resin$$ and not needed at all). For a final coat, I used a resin "top coat" tinted a light gray color. I used the West System products, available at marina and boat building suppliers.

David;

Pretty sharp eyes...
Yep, that's an old cheese slicer handle. I don't have to take my eyes off of the easel to start the timer. A quick jab, and we're off and running... If I'm doing any dodging or burning, that second or two it takes to re-aim my eyes on the easel could make the difference between an accurate dodge or burn.

I'ts not in the picture, but I re-wired that ancient Time-O-Lite so a footswitch let's me dodge or burn without having to manually flip a switch or touch a button. Only the Professional models will permit a modification that turns on the lamp without re-starting the timer.

Updated Photos

I have made a few changes so I took some updated photos today. Quite a few. Also included some photos of how I display prints at home.

Jerold, although I'm 46, you'll no doubt be surprised to learn that I'm you're long lost son, and I'm moving in with you!

Very nice set-up, as are the print displays. Do you also hang some of your prints in your office?
