As a beginner, the monobath concept was appealing because it seemed to make things simpler. After a while, I found that it was actually simpler to have a separate stop bath and fixer. I can see having a powdered monobath might be convenient if I were traveling and wanted to carry some processing with me.

I liked some of of the pictures I got with DF96, though, so I'm glad Cinestill released their D96. I don't know how different the results will be from Xtol or D76, but if I find it makes a difference that I'm able to control, that the option is there - and particularly that it's also available in the 1L size. I don't mind having more than one B&W developer sitting on my shelf, but I generally don't want 10-15L of mixed developer sitting around.

I bought a Kodak 2D with a 7 1/2 inch paragon anastigmat lens about 3 years ago but never used it because of the lack of setting up a darkroom or a way of developing the film. I picked up a light tent that came with a V700 scanner I bought a couple of months ago. I already have a new one so I decided to try to develop 5x7 film using the monobath with a 5x7 tray sitting in a 8x10 tray in case of spillage inside the light tent. With the temp around 75 and 4 1/2 to 5 minutes later I had a 5x7 developed negative. Scanned it with V700 and processed it and here is what I got. Nothing special but wanted to use the camera.

Leica M3 DS, Summicron 50 Collapsible, Efke 50 expired 2005, Cinestill DF96 Monobath, experimenting with reticulation (wash/fix warmer than dev.)

Reminds me I've a df96 that's about to expire soon! The worst part is that it needs to be used within 2 months once opened.

Just about done with the DF96, I got it in liquid format but have a bag of the dry stuff here as well that I'm gonna use up next.

Any differences between the mix yourself and pre done worth mentioning?

Can't say for certain; I've only used the powder/crystals version -- slightly faster and significantly cheaper shipping (no shipping a couple pounds of water, no ground-only), and a couple bucks cheaper for the product itself. Worked fine for me. Got another bag of it, perhaps for next beach vacation.

Works the same. Took forever for me for the crystals to fully dissolve at room temp.
