And yes, many makers now buy in their film base. I don't belive that Ilford EVER made their own base. MY understading is that many firms buy from Island Polimers, which was built as part of the VEB Orwo complex perhaps even Before the partition of Germany.

All those who later became the top players in revenu, thus Ilford not included, started with own NC-base making. Gevaert even built a dedicated plant for this not on their actual site but far away on remote grounds.

On the Catlabs IG they told a poster today that they will be providing some kind of "informative spectral testing" for this film in a few weeks time, but in the meantime suggested that the person asking for characteristic curves purchase a densitometer from Catlabs (for about $900) and do the testing for themselves. You can imagine how well that was received, or you can read it for yourself on IG.

Oh, great. Now the niche within a niche within a niche within a niche within a niche within a niche within a niche curmudgeons have taken over Instagram. Fortunately, a few curmudgeons will have no affect on the rebranded and no idea what is in the cassette film market where most film is sold. I hear there are plans to revamp the Sunny 16 rule so you don't even have to know the film speed to calculate the correct exposure. Cool.

Here’s my take on it…. It looks to have finer grain than Kentmere 400 and is very punchy. I did not use any filters in my pics. But I really like Kentmere 400 and it is cheaper. Maybe that is why I like it so much? But this Catlabs film is still cheaper than Hp5 and TriX as well as others. For me the tools - including film - are kinda secondary. It doesn’t matter what lens, camera, film etc if there is nothin interesting captured.
Plus it also comes down to availability. I see Catlabs films in my local stores, but I do not see Kentmere unless I got to Freestyle or mail order. I often do see Hp5, but I think for the majority of film users going to their store and seeing Catlabs on the shelf for a couple o bux less than HP5 is a win.

Seriously it’s only $6 freakin 99. Get a roll, if you don’t like it move on with your life. There are bigger things to worry about!

At least they print right on the box where those Pop Tarts were baked. Not sure where they were engineered though. Do me a favor. Look on the back and see if they list different toasting times for optimum toasting with different toasters.
