Keep that up and I'll start posting my P30 pics. You think Catlabs is contrasty? 😁

Been away for a few days. I’m surprised this thread is still running. No matter how good or bad this new film is, Photrio is giving CatLABS free marketing and advertising. Talk about a deal! A suggestion to CatLABS. Why not become a Photrio corporate sponsor line Adox, Ilford and others?

A few samples of the film in Rodinal 1+25. Taken with a Leica II and Elmar 35mm (a lens not known for its high contrast image qualities). Incident meter.

The light here in No California is pretty high contrast this time of year, and this film seems to accentuate that. Nice grain structure, seems reasonably sharp. I think EI ISO 200 is about right.
Second roll will be in the FM3a, with its real meter.
It has a modern look to it, with the compressed blacks. Also seems to have some IR sensitivity.

Wut about ISO 1.6 film? That is wut I’m shooting right now. No tripod required if it is sunny out!
Only one I can think of that is that low is Movie positive print ilm, like EASTMAN 2/3/7/5302. A Blue sensitive film without any sensitising dyes. Basically contact printing paper on a clear film base. ORWO makes (or is it made?) a similar one which is Ortho as I understand (have not tried it) as PF-2

5/7302 (acetate) is one that is no longer made on that base. so only the ESTAR versions are current.

All those who later became the top players in revenu, thus Ilford not included, started with own NC-base making. Gevaert even built a dedicated plant for this not on their actual site but far away on remote grounds.
Of course way back when many players like Gevaert were starting, the default film base was Nitrate. It was only in the early 1950s that the last of the Nitrate film left the North American market.

Only a few niche within a niche within a niche within a niche within a niche within a niche within a niche curmudgeons worry about correct exposure and processing, and that is not the market to which this film is marketed, e.g. artists.

Artists don't care about correct exposure and processing? Really? I've been a professional artist for almost 20 years, and I care deeply about correct exposure and processing. They're absolutely necessary to control the image so that it conforms to what I want it to look like.

That may be what I am using, repackaged under the hip name "Slow your roll".
Very blue indeed!

Posted this digression so the haters have a chance to catch their breath before launching into CatLabs again.

Peppers doesn't seem to mind I'm using a film called CatLabs. He actually seems quite happy about it!

Perhaps Peppers thinks being on Catlabs' new film will increase his chance of having his own Instagram page? Many dogs do, you know.

This thread just keeps on giving. 😵‍💫

Has anyone mentioned yet what a stooopid name CatLabs is? Because if you know anything about photography, you know the #1 enemy is cat hair. So who would want a cat in their lab? Who are these clowns?

Back to yelling at CatLabs.

My kittens were intent on attacking my dark bag as I fumbled with a roll of Ilford HP5+ inside it yesterday. First time they've been in the room with me while I was loading film into a tank, and they thought it tremendous fun to pounce on my hands from the outside of the bag.

Anyway....I've bitten the bullet and ordered 3x Catlabs 320 in 120 format to be delivered to my sister in-law in Missouri...I'll be there in under two weeks. Will shoot a roll in a Zeiss-Ikon folder while over there and likely bring two back.

I don't know how much publicity this gives Catlabs....these forums *really* are a niche within a niche.

Well, to be fair this is the same crowd that still has not got over the name change from apug to photrio.

So your one of those who still did not yet read Sean's explanation that says that Photrio is the "combination" of three forums.
Thus when I mingle at an analog-only forum, I am still at Apug, and when I welcome a new member seemingly only interested in analog matters I do so as a member of Apug.

That analog-only thing was the reason I joined, and if this is being cancelled it will be the reason I shall leave.

Quite an interesting manifesto!

That would be a geat loss. You might be the only mega poster whose posts I actually read with interest.

28 posts today. 27 posts are analog and 1 is digital. Fears of analog being cancelled are overblown.

Quite an interesting manifesto!

Ha! Maybe we should have let one of the cool kids write a Photrio manifesto so that some of us don't get left behind. The thought of that especially embarrassing for me personally since I'm not even that old (I might be even younger that the most cool dood here).

Maybe we would even learn to take cool pictures then. Maybe we would then stop asking unnecessary questions.

World would be a better place.

But then again, who would be my test subjects for new cameras/films? Nothing beat kitten pics for testing new cameras and film.
